The John H. Watson Fieldhouse is the training center for most of Auburn's 15 athletic teams. The facility, which measures 155 feet by 210 feet, is arranged in a manner that allows student-athletes to improve in strength, speed and agility.
What once was Auburn Football's indoor facility, Watson Fieldhouse recently underwent a $1.5 million renovation to transition the facility into an Olympic-sport weight and conditioning facility as well as the home for our growing sports nutrition program.
The space was conditioned and divided for weights, conditioning and a nutritional area complete with fresh fruit, made-to-order shakes and other healthy snack options.
The weight room includes more than 30 platforms and two 650 square foot dumbbell areas, as well as a 10,000 square foot turf area for conditioning and warm-up.
The turf area is unique and one where the staff is able to blend weight and plyometric work capacity activities into one space where it would typically require two or three. It can function for close to 100 student-athletes working at one time.
The original construction of the fieldhouse was made possible because of a generous contribution from Dothan businessman John Watson who graduated from Auburn in 1960 with a degree in mechanical engineering. The facility was dedicated on September 4, 1999.
