Plate images
I deleted all the above, and a few others, as the plate designs are property of the various states an provinces from which they come. Barring specific release from those entities, these are not public domain images. Sometimes release is granted. For example, I obtained release from Province of Quebec government regarding road signs of theirs (see User:Durin/Text to Government Québec). We can't assume these images are PD without their specific acknowledgment. Also, in a number of cases these images were tagged as works of the U.S. government. They were not; they're works of the respective state governments, and the law granting PD status to the images does not apply to state works. Regards, --Durin 16:28, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
I don't think Image:Swallow_chicks444-2.jpg is an FP on Commons is it? At least this one didn't pass. I'm guessing the template was there from en and it just coincides with the template on Commons. --Dori - Talk 15:29, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

Hi. Image:Tibetanmusicalscore.jpg which you uploaded has no information on what is shown in the image. If you can add a description or further information, please do so. Thanks, -- Infrogmation 18:00, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
Chinese language translations
Hey, thanks for volunteering on the help desk. Do you have any ideas as to what would be a good way to make this work? I haven't yet worked with another user on something like this, so if you have, I'd like to hear your thoughts. BrokenSphere 14:44, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
- OK. Basically there are 2 groups of photos for which I need translation. One group is the ones I plan to upload here, the other group is of the nearby label/caption to ID what the subject is, which I am not planning to upload. Here are 2 possibilities for upload & ID that I thought of, if you can think of others, let me know.
- I know for some that the file names will have to be changed, so I could do what happened before when someone from HK was able to point out specific streets that I had uploaded under generic names, i.e. after he made corrective edits, I reuploaded them using the correct street names and used the {{badname}} tag to get rid of the dupes. This process though gets a little more cumbersome with the second group since the pic has to be gotten rid of but not replaced. I guess I could tag these with {{delete}} and give my own reasons.
- I could upload all pics for translation to a folder in a Fotki account that I have and number them, send you the link, and you could PM me back as to what they are by number. However since it's a public folder, if I post the link to the whole folder, then anyone can backtrack along the URL and check out my other vacation photos. What I could do is host them there, but post the individual URL of each pic in a numbered list, like this:
- This way it makes it harder for someone to go back into the public section of my account, for one since my username isn't displayed. You could then make an edit as to what #1 is, and so on.
- Personally I think option #2 (upload to Fotki and post the pics here) is better as it avoids having to upload to Commons and do the whole badname tag/reupload bit. Another thing is I've been uploading a few dozen other pics on a daily basis, so these would start to get buried among those, although I do track of my uploads. BrokenSphere 15:19, 18 June 2008 (UTC)
- I assume that you're talking about these 2. I've been logging what my travel pics are of and where they are for 3 years now. As for whether or not I can distinguish whether something is genuinely identifying the subject in question or blatant advertising, all I can say is that at the time I took the photo it was in good faith that it was the former. If you put 2 texts in front of me in Chinese and to use the 2 examples, one is a poem and the other's an ad, I couldn't tell you which was which just looking at them. I'm assuming that you would be in the same situation as me if the text was written in Cyrillic or Arabic and you couldn't distinguish one word in either language from the other. Your patience and forbearance is appreciated if you still want to continue with this project, but if you'd rather not, I can ask around to see if anyone else can help out. PD-1923 in Chinese
Hi, I noticed something weird with the translations of {{PD-1923}}: the zh-hans and zh-hant on Template:PD-1923/lang both point to Template:PD-1923/zh (rather than /zh-hans or /zh-hant). My guess is this was a typo, but since I don't speak Chinese, I may be completely wrong. Would you mind checking, and correcting if needed? Thanks, Pruneautalk 14:08, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

File tagging File:ZooKeys_logo.JPG
This media may be deleted.
|
Thanks for uploading File:ZooKeys_logo.JPG. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). Warning: unless the permission information is given, the file may be deleted after seven days. Thank you. |
Category:Air France Flight 447
Would you like to add Chinese text descriptions to Category:Air France Flight 447 (the category, its images, and its subcategories)? Please make sure that the English, French, and Portuguese texts are on top. WhisperToMe (talk) 22:14, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
categories
Um, why are you reverting BotMultichill? All those images lack real categories. They should be categorized by species name... I'm planning to all of them when I finish up some other stuff. You shouldn't have revert though, he's just going to tag them again. Rocket000 (talk) 07:27, 9 September 2009 (UTC)

Just a note that this file doesn't have sufficient permission (check the ticket). Stifle (talk) 16:45, 14 December 2009 (UTC)
- We're scientists. We don't "steal" other people's images and release them to public domain without permission. The author of the image, Chris Winks, gave permission to his colleague Stephen Thrope (User talk:Stho002) to release the image. Just give it a few for Chris to send an email over to OTRS. P.S. Scientists hate red tape. OhanaUnitedTalk page 05:35, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
- The image hasn't been released to the public domain, either by the author or by someone else; it has been given permission to upload. You know as well as I do that that won't do. Stifle (talk) 09:25, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
Images from ZooKeys
Just wanted to thank you for the great images from ZooKeys! I have made articles on all of the moth species you added on wikipedia. Could I ask you a favour though? Would it be possible to let me know (on commons or wikipedia) when you add new pictures of moths or butterflies? At the moment I have to sift though the whole category when I want to see which pictures are new.. Cheers and thanks for the great work! Ruigeroeland (talk) 10:40, 4 February 2010 (UTC)

ZooKeys images
I'm planning on extracting some images from the ZooKeys PDFs to upload. Is someone else supposed to be doing this (with access to the originals) and just hasn't yet or is there some other reason? Rocket000 (talk) 00:22, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
- Only 1-17? There's 38 out now. I think I will upload some (I'll be sure to check for duplicates beforehand). Thanks. Rocket000 (talk) 20:47, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
- I'll be more than happy to do the uploads for you. If there's a lot of cropping to do, you can make a request at Commons:Graphic Lab, but I can't guarantee anyone will do it (cropping doesn't seem to be a popular task). You can send me whatever you have left to do at brad9626 gmail.com (wiki mail doesn't allow attachments). Rocket000 (talk) 08:11, 8 March 2010 (UTC)

Picture of the Year voting round 1 open
Dear Wikimedians,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2012 Picture of the Year competition is now open. We're interested in your opinion as to which images qualify to be the Picture of the Year for 2012. Voting is open to established Wikimedia users who meet the following criteria:
- Users must have an account, at any Wikimedia project, which was registered before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC].
- This user account must have more than 75 edits on any single Wikimedia project before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC]. Please check your account eligibility at the POTY 2012 Contest Eligibility tool.
- Users must vote with an account meeting the above requirements either on Commons or another SUL-related Wikimedia project (for other Wikimedia projects, the account must be attached to the user's Commons account through SUL).
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. From professional animal and plant shots to breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historically relevant images, images portraying the world's best architecture, maps, emblems, diagrams created with the most modern technology, and impressive human portraits, Commons features pictures of all flavors.
For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topic categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you can vote for as many images as you like. The first round category winners and the top ten overall will then make it to the final. In the final round, when a limited number of images are left, you must decide on the one image that you want to become the Picture of the Year.
To see the candidate images just go to the POTY 2012 page on Wikimedia Commons
Wikimedia Commons celebrates our featured images of 2012 with this contest. Your votes decide the Picture of the Year, so remember to vote in the first round by January 30, 2013.
Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

Image:OSH2003_busiest_tower.jpg
A (belated) thanks on editing this in order to try to make it better. Unfortunately, at the time of taking the picture, we only thought about its usefulness to us and didn't have a copy w/o people in the foreground. I thought of cropping it that way myself, but decided not to, as the cropped version doesn't provide the reference to the ground, and so it's more difficult to judge the tower height... I wish I knew how to edit myself out of that picture :-) BACbKA (talk) 10:25, 16 December 2013 (UTC)

Firstly, the BlackBerry OS is proprietary, so the screen needs to be blacked out.

Please help
I'm noticing a message in File:Fatimah Calligraphy.png saying that the permission has not been received by the Commons OTRS team. But I'm sure about it and I've sent the mentioned mail Aug 28, 2014 at 8:53 AM, as my mail sent items box says. I've got some questions:
- Should I send it once again?
- As the creator of this file, I've presented a Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 4.0 International license for the file. I can't understand why should I send such an email to say I am the copyright holder and I let every one use this file according to the license conditions! I've said it already by the license! Image of Scolopendra cataracta from ZooKeys?
Hi... I'm looking for an image of the new specis Scolopendra cataracta reported in ZooKeys (doi = 10.3897/zookeys.590.7950) and discussed in the media here with a ZooKeys image. Any chance of an image for use in my new article and maybe DYK at en:WP? Thanks, EdChem (talk) 15:58, 1 July 2016 (UTC)
