English: This Project was started at 5th of March 2006 to look after the architecture-related contents in the Commons.

The scope of this project is to coordinate the following works:

  1. develop standard for naming of architecture-related pictures, drawings etc.
  2. organise and sort the Category:Architecture and its subcategories
  3. keep the top-categories Category:Structures, Category:Buildings, Category:Architects, Category:Architecture and for example Category:Architecture of Germany free of files
  4. ensuring that all adequate licensing considerations are met

Language

EN: As English is the common language for the categories in the commons this project was initiated in English. Anyway, people from all international Projects are invited to "join the team" and enrich the project with their language.

Naming of Files

The name of your uploaded file should be as significant and destinct as possible. Please note that file names can't be changed after upload! Simply queue one word after another, don't use a "-" or simlar in between. To keep it simple type everything in small letters.

Naming pictures showing buildings and structures

The name of a file showing a building should consist of the following:

  1. If the file is part of a collection: name of the collection for example: "Roger-Viollet"
  2. What type of file is it? possibilities: photo, panorama, picture, drawing (elevation, section, plan, sketch), video
  3. Which object / building is shown? for example: "eiffeltower"
  4. What part of the object is shown? for example: "front side"
  5. In which town / city? for example: "paris"
  6. In which country? for example: "france"
  7. What is the Date of the file? for example: "2006-03-21"
  8. file ending

So the example would be named: "Roger-Viollet photo eiffeltower front side paris france 2006-03-21.jpg" All other information should be placed in the summary field. This should include:

  • additional information about the building: owner, architect, engineer, year of erection, building costs, building history, wikilink to artcile about the building
  • information about the file, like source see Commons:Upload summary for more

Naming pictures showing architects

The name of a file showing a building should consist of the following:

  1. If the file is part of a collection: name of the collection for example: "Roger-Viollet"
  2. What type of file is it? possibilities: photo, portrait, audio, video
  3. What person is shown? for example: "richard meyer"
  4. What is the Date of the file? for example: "2006-03-21"
  5. file ending

So the example would be named: "Roger-Viollet photo richard meyer 2006-03-21.jpg" All other information should be placed in the summary field. This should include:

  • additional information about the archutect: dates, style, importand buildings
  • information about the file, like source see Commons:Upload summary for more.

Architectural drawings of buildings should be classified like this:

  1. Shown building, for example Category:Semperoper.
  2. Location, for example Category:Drawings of buildings in Hamburg
  3. Type of Drawing: see Category:Architectural drawings by type, for example: Category:Floor plans
  4. Type of building. see Category:Drawings of buildings, for example: Category:Drawings of churches

How to classify a picture or drawing of a bridge

Content depicting Bridges can be classified like this:

Bridge Category. First check if there is already a Category for this specific bridge.

  • If yes: put it in there, that's it. Don't put it anywhere else!
  • If no: If you have more than two pictures: create a new Category, named after the bridge. For example Category:Rheinbrücke Emmerich. Use the common name, not the english one. Then you categorize the category (NOT each single picture!) as follows:

How to classify a picture of an architect

Pictures regarding architects should be classified in categories like this:

Architect Category. First check if there is already a Category for this Architect.

  • If yes: put the pictures in there, that's it. Additionally you can specify the kind of picture, for example: Category:Portraits of men.
  • If no: If you have more than two pictures: create a new Category, named after the architect. For example Category:Jean Nouvel. Then you categorize the Cat (not the single pictures!) as follows:
  1. Country: see Category:Architects by country, for example: Category:Architects from Germany
  2. Style: see Category:Architects by style, for example: Category:Renaissance architects.

Please don't put files additionally into Category:Architects if they are in these sub-categories!
