Commons:Structured data/Modeling/Source

Show your love! Please help! – Work in progress
You can help by working on guidelines and providing examples below. Visit the talk page to discuss this process in general.

Modeling of various types of sources in structured data, for files on Wikimedia Commons is mostly done through source of file (P7482) property and its qualifiers. See Commons:Essential information for section on different styles of sources.

If you are uploading a file that originally came from an external website, you should provide a link to the web page (i.e., the url) on which the image or file is displayed (that is, not the web address of the file itself, but rather the web page containing the file). If the file is not in public domain, than the URL should also include information about its copyright status. Optional qualifiers:
  • Since content of the page might be changing with time, a qualifier retrieved (P813) should be added to indicate a date when the source was added or when the URL held the content of the file.
  • Use archive URL (P1065) to provide link to an archive page where the original content of the page can be found, in case the page changed or no longer exist.

Use this if you are uploading a file or image that you have created entirely by yourself. This is equivalent to the upload wizard option "This file is my own work" during the "Release rights" portion of the process. Before adding this property to images by other uploaders, please ensure that the file uses {{Own}} template and that the name in the author field matches the name of the original uploader.

The exact source of the image was not provided at the upload; however since it can be found at many internet websites, it is assumed to come from one of them . Use published in (P1433) for publications there the image was printed, which are required for supporting the copyright statement.
