The '''Patton''' tanks ('''M47 Patton''', '''M48 Patton''') were some of the United States Army's principal tanks of the after World War II  period. These models were named after General George Patton, commander of the U.S. Third Army during World War II. It was replaced in US service by the M1 Abrams.
