Summary
DescriptionRadha in the Moonlight.jpg |
English: This painting of Radha is arguably one of Raja Ravi Varma’s finest depictions of the uttama nayika—the ideal woman embodying the virtues and qualities intrinsic to goddesses and heroines in classical Indian literature. Radha exudes a gentle beauty, intelligence, and sensitivity characteristic of the uttama nayika. As Radha, renowned for her unparalleled grace, Raja Ravi Varma has rendered her with extraordinary care and refinement. Aware of Krishna’s divine nature, Radha has placed a pooja thali—a platter of flowers and sweetmeats—beside her, symbolizing the ritual of worship that precedes the playful moments of love. In their relationship, the lines between human and divine love are beautifully intertwined. She sits serenely on the rocks by the shimmering water, perhaps just having caught sight of Krishna emerging through the trees. |
