People in attendance at the taping of Jamie Foxx‘s upcoming Netflix special What Had Happened Was claim the comedian addressed whether Sean “Diddy” Combs was “responsible” for his hospitalization in 2023. But they shared differing accounts of how Foxx claimed Combs was involved.
A new report from Page Six outlines accounts from three people who reportedly attending the taping, which took place over three days at the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta, Georgia.
One eyewitness, Choke No Joke, claimed in a video on Comedy Hype that Foxx stated, “Diddy was responsible for what happened to him, and [Foxx] is the one who called the FBI on [Combs].” Choke said he attended the first and last day of taping.
“I don’t think he was joking,” Choke said. “Y’all can determine was he joking or not when you see the show, ’cause to me — I’m a new comedian, right? … I know when somebody’s setting up a punchline, and I know when you’re serious.”
He later claimed that Foxx also said that he was “the one who called the feds on” Diddy. Choke speculated that Foxx may have called the FBI because he was “scared.”
Diddy was arrested in September and is facing a federal indictment on racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking and transportation to engage in prostitution. He also stands accused of sexual assault and rape in multiple lawsuits.
Page Six reported that Choke told the outlet he “was shocked to hear Foxx allegedly make the claims out loud, as he and other industry insiders had previously heard the rumors.”
Celebrity security guard Big Homie .CC also claimed to have heard Foxx make similar jokes during the taping, which he attended with a client. “I know [Combs] poisoned Jamie Foxx, and Jamie Foxx reported him to the FBI because of it. … Jamie Foxx reported this man to the FBI because of this,” he claimed in a recent interview with Cam Capone News.
A third eyewitness, Dennis L.A. White, had a different recollection of how Foxx addressed his hospitalization. He told Page Six that Foxx said something along the lines of: “People keep asking me if Diddy was responsible. He was not responsible. If he was, I would’ve been dead.”
Foxx was hospitalized in April 2023 for an undisclosed medical condition. Though he has shared how difficult his health journey has been, the comedian has yet to reveal what caused the hospitalization.
He recently told Gayle King that it was an “excruciating” experience to open up about his health scare on the show.
“It was an excruciating time to be able to open those wounds every single day for three nights. It was excruciating because the worry is what gets you,” he said.
A premiere date for What Had Happened Was has not been announced yet.
