The dinar is the currency unit of various countries, most of them Arabic-speaking. The word "dinar" (دينار in Arabic and Persian) is derived from denarius, a Roman currency.
Countries that use dinar as their currency
- Algeria: the Algerian dinar
- Bahrain: the Bahraini dinar
- Iran: the Iranian rial is divided into 100 dinars (not in use)
- Iraq: the Iraqi dinar
- Jordan: the Jordanian dinar
- Kuwait: the Kuwaiti dinar
- Libya: the Libyan dinar
- Serbia: the Serbian dinar (Kosovo and Metohija uses the euro in most of the territory)
- Republic of Macedonia: the Macedonian denar
- Tunisia: the Tunisian dinar
