Ben Lyons is a resident film expert on The Daily 10. He was born and raised in New York City. He is the grandson of legendary New York Post columnist Leonard Lyons and is the son of NBC film critic Jeffrey Lyons. [1]
Career
After spending summers interning at places like Duck Down Records, Def Jam/Roc-A-Fella Records, and The William Morris Agency (where he is now a client), and writing for YRB magazine, Lyons started his own production company in 2002 called Ruff Sketch, which currently has several film and TV projects in active development. He also began producing segments for the nationally syndicated show, Hip Hop Nation, seen in over 100 markets across North America. His "Day in the Life of Russell Simmons" episode followed the music mogul as he prepared for the opening night of Def Poetry on Broadway.[2]
Lyons made the transition from producing to hosting when he was asked by MTV to co-host "Your Movie Show" in the fall of 2004. For MTV, Lyons interviewed Will Smith, Jack Black, Angelina Jolie, and Vincent "Big Pussy" Pastore of Sopranos fame.[3][2]
In 2006, Lyons became resident film expert on The Daily 10, covering red carpets and hitting festivals for the network, the Vine and, soon, a new E! Online column. Each week, Lyons reviews new releases and classics in his signature segment the Lyons Den.[1][4]
Personal life
Ivanka Trump once called Lyons' house collect when they were kids. They go to the same school together and have lots of mutual friends. Lyons said of her, "She is incredibly sweet and sincere. I think she could be bigger than her father someday if she wanted to."[3]
Lyons plays basketball and golf and deejays every week at L.A. hot spots the Dime and the Roosevelt Hotel. He's a die-hard New York Knicks fan and a contributor to several environmental and energy conservation organizations.[2]
Ben is also currently engaged Whitney Port from the MTV Reality show The Hills.[citation needed]
