Streethouse is a small village to the east of Wakefield, the south of Normanton and the west of Pontefract in West Yorkshire. Formerly a mining village, Streethouse retains a train station on the line between Wakefield and Pontefract and a miners' club. Unemployment and deprivation prompted several locals to leave and there were periods when much of the housing was uninhabited. Streethouse has suffered from similar problems to Fitzwilliam and Grimethorpe, though on a lesser scale.

Recently, however, new housing estates on Whinney Lane from companies such as Noble Homes and Station Fields, in addition to two new parks being built close to The Crescent and Meadway, further regeneration and a reliable local council have contributed to rehabitation in, not only in the older homes, but also, the newer ones. Another contributor to the demand for homes in Streethouse, and the subsequent regeneration and rehabitation, is the increase in the National Population.

The village also boasts 5-time Pontefract League Division One Champions, 1-time National Village Semi-finalists and 1-time Dyson-Skidmore trophy winners, the Streethouse Cricket Club.

Streethouse is a semi rural village situated to the East of Wakefield, the West of Pontefract and the South-East of Leeds in West Yorkshire.

History: A former mining village, Streethouse is currently a commuter village serving Wakefield, Pontefract and Leeds.

Access: Streethouse retains a train station with regular services to Pontefract and Wakefield with interconnecting services to Leeds and Sheffield. Junction 31 of the M62 is close by and the Glasshaughton Link Road is due to open in 2008. This will improve access to Wakefield and Castleford and relieve congestion on the M62.

Environs: Like many industrial areas, Streethouse suffered a period of decline. In recent years however, the village has enjoyed a considerable amount of investment from regeneration funds and private investment from housing companies. Some of the older, run down buildings are now earmarked for demolition and plans are afoot to replace them with a new community centre and housing.
