To clip an article, an account will need to be created on Newspapersarchive.com. '''Be aware that clipped articles will be associated with you newspaperarchive.com username and that it might then be fairly easy to connect your newspaperarchive.com username to your WP username.''' To avoid this, create a separate email account.

*You have an account that is a minimum of 6 months old
*You have a minimum of 500 edits to Wikimedia projects
*You do not already have access to this resource through another library or institution
If you don't quite meet the experience requirements but think you would still be a strong candidate for access, feel free to apply and you may be considered

I've used it for various historical figures from business and entertainment, such as [[Stanley Marcus]] and [[Charo]] because it enabled me to look up articles from the first half of the 20th century that ''aren't'' covered by newspaper archives to which I presently have access through my local library (e.g., NewsBank). While these days I'm not able to edit quite as often as I used to, I do edit periodically and it contributed to a wide variety of articles, including those on various diplomatic rescuers during the Holocaust, as well as several related to El Salvador and its 12-year civil war, much of which is not covered by some of the other archives due to copyright issues that rule out access to articles from 1977-1984.

Clippings

[edit]

Both Newspaperarchive.com and The Wikipedia Library would prefer that articles citing Newspaperarchive.com link to clippings. Clippings allow Newspaperarchive.com subscriber-editors to identify particular articles, extract them from the original full sheet newspaper and share them through unique URLs. Thus readers who click on a Newspaperarchive.com Clipping links will be able to access that particular article without needing to subscribe to Newspaperarchive.com. Clippings can be deleted by the user who created the clipping, but otherwise remain permanently open access, even when user accounts expire.

To clip an article, an account will need to be created on Newspapersarchive.com. Be aware that clipped articles will be associated with you newspaperarchive.com username and that it might then be fairly easy to connect your newspaperarchive.com username to your WP username. To avoid this, create a separate email account.

  1. Go to WP:LIBRARY
  2. If necessary log in to the Wikipedia library
  3. Go to the newspaperarchive.com site
  4. Click on the "Clip" link at the upper right.
  5. Either create a Newspaperarchive.com account or log in to your Newspaperarchive.com account.
  6. Clip the article

To refer to a Newspaperarchive.com article on Wikipedia, the URL of the clipped Newspaperarchive.com article is needed.

  1. On https://newspapersarchive.com, click on "My Account" and then "Favorite Pages."
  2. Find the clipped article. Note that there might be a delay of a few minutes before a recently clipped article is visible.
  3. Click on clipped article and copy the URL in the browser window.
  4. When using the URL of the clipped article in a Wikipedia article, is a best practice to replace "https://access-newspaperarchive-com.wikipedialibrary.idm.oclc.org" with "https://newspaperarchive.org" However, a bot will probably eventually fix it.

Note that if you download a PDF of the clipped article, then the URL at the bottom might be incorrect. It is best to use the URL from the clipping found via the My Account -> Favorite Pages.
