Bun B

Bernard Freeman[1] better known by his stage name Bun B, is a rapper and one half (with the late Pimp C) of Southern hip hop act UGK. He is a member of Rap-A-Lot Records, an independent hip hop record label.

UGK and Mddl Fngz

Based in Port Arthur, Texas,[1] Bun B and fellow rapper Chad "Pimp C" Butler formed UGK in the late 1980s [citation needed] and in 1993 signed with Jive Records, which released their major-label debut Too Hard to Swallow. That album was the first among several more bestselling Southern rap albums. Although focusing on UGK, Bun B formed the side project Mddl Fngz in 2000.[2] Mddl Fngz was featured in the AND 1 Streetball video game with the track "Hard In the Paint". UGK has performed guest appearances in the songs "Big Pimpin'" by Jay-Z and "Sippin' on Some Syrup" by Three 6 Mafia.

Solo career

Since Pimp C entered a jail sentence in 2003 on an aggravated gun assault charge, Bun B made guest appearances on numerous albums by other Southern rappers and released a 2005 mixtape titled Legends.[2] Singles featuring Bun B included "They Don't Know" by Paul Wall and "Gimme That" by Webbie.

Trill

In October 2005, Bun B's debut solo album Trill was released.[3] Singles included "Draped Up" with Mike Jones, Lil' Flip, Paul Wall, Slim Thug, Devin the Dude, and Z-Ro,[3] "Git It" with Ying Yang Twins, and "Get Throwed" with Pimp C, Z-Ro, Young Jeezy, & Jay-Z.[4] The album peaked at the sixth spot on the American Billboard 200 chart and number one on the Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart.[5]

II Trill

After Pimp C died in 2007, Bun B returned to a solo career. In 2008, he released his second album, II Trill.[2] The first single was "That's Gangsta" featuring Sean Kingston. It debuted at #2 on the Billboard 200, selling 98,000 copies.[6]
