Welcome
Welcome!
Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. The following links will help you begin editing on Wikipedia:

Please bear these points in mind while editing Wikipedia:
- Respect copyrights - do not copy and paste text or images directly from other websites.
- Maintain a neutral point of view - this is possibly the most important Wikipedia policy.
- Take particular care while adding biographical material about a living person to any Wikipedia page. Particularly, controversial and negative statements should be referenced to multiple reliable sources.
- No edit warring and sockpuppetry.
- If you are testing, please use the Sandbox to do so.
- Do not add troublesome content to any article, such as: copyrighted text, libel, advertising or promotional messages, and text that is not related to an article's subject. Deliberately adding such content or otherwise editing articles maliciously is considered vandalism, doing so will result your account or IP being blocked from editing.
The Wikipedia Tutorial is a good place to start learning about Wikipedia. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and discussion pages using four tildes, like this: ~~~~ (the software will replace them with your signature and the date). Again, welcome! Hi there
Welcome to Wikipedia, it's great to see a new face working on cricket - particularly to get rid of one of the remaining Durham cricketers. Just eight first-class Durham cricketers to go! Bobo. 09:06, 8 December 2009 (UTC)
My lists
Feel free to remove any and all bluelinks you wish from the Hampshire list - and any and all of the bluelinks from the English first-class county lists. By my calculations there are 325 Hampshire cricketers still to write about - so there's probably a lot of low-hanging fruit, as it were. All of the names will be retained in the history, so even if I want to see the full lists, I'm not worried eitherway.
Thank you for contacting me. I will see if there are any names that I can write about in the short term.
Some of the non-English first-class teams however, I wouldn't mind retaining the full lists of players, for reference and completeness purposes. Bobo. 09:20, 12 December 2009 (UTC)
Thank you!
That's all of Durham County Cricket Club's first-class names done and dusted. I may be wrong, but I don't think there are any List A cricketers for Durham who have not played for the first-class XI who do not have articles.. (if that makes sense)..
There are still fourteen names for Durham Cricket Board who do not yet have articles - the top of this list has the lot. I'll see if there are any I can knock off. Awesome stuff! Now just to wait until March 29 to see if they get any first-class debutantes! Bobo. 17:48, 23 December 2009 (UTC)
Tom Mottram
Thanks for all the great stuff you're doing on the less famous Hampshire players. Excellent. I hope you don't mind, but I moved Thomas Mottram to Tom Mottram on the basis that that is what he was known as when he played: I was rather surprised no one had created an article on him before because he is one of the ultimate Hampshire heroes. He and Bob Herman formed what is probably the weakest-ever opening attack in a Championship winning side - weak on paper, that is, because they were highly effective! And when Hampshire replaced Mottram with Andy Roberts the following season, what did they win? Nothing! Cheers. Johnlp (talk) 10:06, 26 December 2009 (UTC)
Thank you for creating this category. Once I get into adding the names of other cricketers in those lists of CB cricketers, we need to make categories for all the other Cricket Board teams. As ever, the lists are here, here, and here. Bobo. 21:55, 28 December 2009 (UTC)
That explains it
I knew I had a name missing from Hampshire CB's list somewhere. Thank you! Bobo. 20:06, 29 December 2009 (UTC)
Thank you
Just as I would have done had I have got there first. :D Thank you very much. Still 311 Hampshire names to add. Let me see if there are any I can knock off quickly. Bobo. 23:41, 29 December 2009 (UTC)
The article Wang Lei (Chinese cricketer) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- biography fails WP:CRIN as Lei has never played a first-class or list a match
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
Help please!
{{helpme}} I am working from a list of red listed first-class cricketers and have by working through the list I created an article on a cricketer which already exists. The articles are John Taylor (cricketer, born 1923) and the one I created John Taylor (Hampshire cricketer). I am wondering if there is any way to delete John Taylor (cricketer, born 1923) (which has less information) so we do not have an article double.
Any ideas on how to delete John Taylor (cricketer, born 1923) would be appreciated. AssociateAffiliate (talk) 20:26, 10 January 2010 (UTC)
- Hello, you should simply merge the content into one page and leave the other as a redirect. fetchcomms☛ 20:30, 10 January 2010 (UTC)
- Also, add the template on the other page as well. If there is no real opposition after a while (I doubt there will be) you can just put the information together. fetchcomms☛ 20:43, 10 January 2010 (UTC)

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute to Wikipedia, at least one of your recent edits, such as the one you made to Warblington, did not appear to be constructive and has been reverted. Please use the sandbox for any test edits you would like to make, and read the welcome page to learn more about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Blanking without a summary is WP:Vandalism. Next time please add a summary. Thanks! Written by GeneralCheese 20:43, 31 January 2010 (UTC)
- GeneralCheese claims be a vandalism reverter, yet shows little understanding of what constitutes vandalism: See WP:VAND#NOT.

Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but your recent edit removed maintenance templates from John Frederick (cricketer). When removing maintenance templates, please be sure to either resolve the problem that the template refers to, or give a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry, as your removal of this template has been reverted. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia, and if you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Thank you. It is your responsibility as creator of the article, to reference your contributions. Please do not leave this task for others to complete. RadioFan (talk) 12:35, 12 February 2010 (UTC)
Hampshire redlinks
Nice to hear from you — I haven't had a proper chance to hang out on Wikipedia for a long time — I've been busy elsewhere.. but I hope you're doing well. Just check how many Hampshire redlinks we've got left.. 82, by my reckoning. None from Hampshire CB, as we know! Bobo. 16:33, 12 February 2010 (UTC)
Dorset redlinks
52 by my reckoning. I will see if there are any I could do at some point - though not this evening - quite busy. Hope all is well. Bobo. 22:47, 13 February 2010 (UTC)
Hampshire progress
53 to go! And just a month and a half ago it was over three hundred! Awesome work. Hope all is well. Bobo. 22:10, 14 February 2010 (UTC)
Orphan tags
Regards your comments on my talk page. If you now check Howard Lawson you'll find that it now has the required three links to no longer be counted as an orphan. If you have a birthday and date of death on an article and put in the links in the relevant pages, then that's two out of three links required. Orphan tags are there so editors can improve on the article (and particularly for WikiProject:Orphanage which I used to be a active member of until I realised I couldn't devote enough time to it). Orphan tags and other associated tags are not to mark an article down in any way but are essentially notices for improvement.
On a related note, Expansion tags should not be used on stub articles. Stub articles should have the relevant stub template at the bottom as expansion tags are deemed unnecessary as all stubs need to be expanded. Therefore Howard Lawson's article no longer requires those types of templates at the top of the page at all. If you have any further queries, please let me know. Basanta Regmi
Hi. I see you un-Prodded this cricketer, but I don't think your reasoning stands up to scrutiny. The test of notability in WP:ATHLETE is representing your country at the highest level in a sport, and although the ICC Inter-Continental Cup qualifying matches in 2006 were ICC-backed, they were not counted as first-class (in fact, ICC specifically ruled the Namibia v Nepal match not to be first class - see here), so they're not "highest level". U-19 and U-17 matches have always also failed this hurdle, and several cricketer articles have been deleted on this basis. I'm inclusionist by instinct, but, as you know, lots of people not involved in cricket articles think we're far too generous with our criteria anyway, so when we find one like this that doesn't stack up, we have to be ruthless. Kind regards. Johnlp (talk) 23:20, 21 February 2010 (UTC)
- I hear what you say, but I think the Wang Lei decision is a poor one, and might well have been different had it been copied to the list of cricket-related deletions that the WP:cricket people (like me!) tend to watch. The point is that in these areas we have to draw lines somewhere and after a lot of debate going back several years, the line on cricketers has been broadly accepted as anyone appearing in first-class or List A cricket as defined by ICC etc, and now broadened to include T20 cricket between teams that qualify for FC or List A. Yes, that throws up some oddities (the classic is Neville Shelmerdine), but it is at least consistent and it also complies with WP:ATHLETE. Maybe we should put this one up for AfD to open the debate up to others? Happy to accept a consensus as ever! Johnlp (talk) 17:57, 22 February 2010 (UTC)
- OK. I'll try to get around to it this evening and democracy will be the winner (and maybe Basanti Regmi will be too!). Your work on Hampshire cricketers, BTW, is outstanding! Johnlp (talk) 18:11, 22 February 2010 (UTC)
- I've put Regmi through the AfD process now and so please comment. I think your Prod of the Grand Master piece is going through: it's lasted four days without anyone objecting, so the article will go in three more days if that stays the same. If it doesn't make it through Prod, put it through AfD and I'd certainly support. Johnlp (talk) 21:11, 22 February 2010 (UTC)

I assume that the note on the cricket project page means you've finished: many congratulations. A job well done. Johnlp (talk) 23:03, 2 March 2010 (UTC)
Petersfield
Pardon me for removing the drivel that was here before. Are you aware that one of the all-time greats of English and Hampshire cricket is buried in Petersfield churchyard? See John Small, the article including a photo of his gravestone. All the best. ----Jack | talk page 21:34, 1 April 2010 (UTC)
