Thanks for the update to Tamaasuka's infobox, missed that. Thanks for the other updates too. I get a lot of my info from wrestlers' Japanese wiki articles. They are sometimes referenced, but Japanese news sources are notorious for flushing out their news links every few weeks, so it doesn't do much good to use them. Also, if you think my addition about Tenho's Japanese citizenship is overdone feel free to take it out. I kind of get a kick out the fact that he technically is Japanese. It probably stems from being a foreigner myself in Japan. I respect how even-handed you are about editing, so I won't fret if you think it is too much. By the way, [[Takarafuji]] (who is growing on me) and [[Sadanofuji]] now have articles, if you hadn't noticed. this and that
I updated all the scores soon after the basho was over, I was pretty into sumo this time around, probably because I made my first trip to Fukuoka to see the sumo there (just one day). That is something even a lot of my die hard sumo fan friends in Tokyo can't say - it is the furthest away and the hardest to get vacation for for. Anyway, updating all the rikishi took a lot less time to update without the career totals. This was even considering the fact that you have to do all the lower ranks' tourney tables now as well. It was definitely a good idea. The infobox doesn't really need to be touched much except when they get a new highest rank or they have a big weight change. I also jumped the gun and gave both Myogiryu and Aoiyama articles. Myogiryu would probably have already been approaching regular status in makuuchi if he hadn't been injured early in his first juryo appearance. And Aoiyama also looks dominant, manhandling a number of veterans and getting the fighting spirit prize. He is also one of the few white guys near the top who doesn't look to be a lost cause: Gaga, Tochinoshin, Kokkai, Aran, heck even Kotooshu is on Ozeki cruise control. Not that I am prejudiced towards the white guys, but if Baruto weren't around, I'd start to wonder if European boys've got the right stuff or not. FourTildes (talk) 05:37, 28 November 2011 (UTC)
- Whoops, I guess you noticed, because when I went to check out my brand new Aoiyama article it already had a fighting style section. And, let's take a look, yep Myogiryu does, too. : ) Thanks! FourTildes (talk) 05:46, 28 November 2011 (UTC)
I am working on Daido. He may not for certain be a keeper, as he barely squeaked by an 8-7 (one of which was a fusensho), but he has been there the requisite 3 basho, so... Recently I have taken to incubating wrestler articles on my User page before letting them go prime time. If you ever want to check to make sure we are not overlapping on anything, you can check here User:FourTildes/rikishi_article for what I am working on. FourTildes (talk) 02:54, 29 November 2011 (UTC)
Just finished Shohozan. No excuse there, he did well in his first tournament, but it was very low rung. He doesn't necessarily look to be a keeper, but I think he is interesting. I thought the 3 consecutive basho idea was good originally because I didn't like the boring juryo info-less boxes if they dropped down soon. Now that they can have their following records entered (and I have become a lot more interested in lower divisions in the last few years) I don't mind so much. FourTildes (talk) 20:38, 5 December 2011 (UTC)
- I used to look around more for info on wrestlers. There was a nice site that would give info about individual wrestlers, interesting tidbits about their lives etc., but it is rarely updated anymore. These days most of it is lifted straight from jawiki. I don't even bother to source my articles, which I know I should. If the source police come after me, or if I decided to fix them myself, it should be easy enough, I can just list the same sources the jawiki articles did. FourTildes (talk) 05:56, 6 December 2011 (UTC)
In a very short interval between looking at the "active" list" (it is my central point for tooling around through sumo articles on wiki) I saw Fujiazuma had joined the "articled" : ) Hope you don't mind, but I already added some detail (have the day off today) enough to push his tourney table down enough not to get pinched by his infobox anyway. Now it's just three rikishi left, all dubious, only one of them has got a winning record in makuuchi, Sadanofuji, and he barely eeked it out at #15. My itchy fingers can probably hold out until the next tournament. Maybe :) FourTildes (talk) 02:57, 7 December 2011 (UTC)
Sometimes I feel inspired to give anyone who gets the juryo championship an article. I have yet to move on this impulse though. : ) A LOT of lower ranked wrestlers have articles on jawiki. I wouldn't be surprised at all if every current juryo ranked wrestler had an article. Ironically, they can go months without having their tables updated but... We may have fewer articles, but we take pretty good care of them. Speaking of which, did you notice jawiki's link to the "years" articles? They have their own version now, too. I like how the Japanese is integrated as part of a "years in sports" template. However, having taken a look at the Japanese version of sumo "years", your articles are much more interesting. Maybe they'll add more eventually.. The great thing about the "years" article is sumo is such a small world that it is possible to cover just about everything important that happened in a concise article. going historical on ya
I was going through past edits of sumo articles. Hakuho did not have an article until he made Ozeki. Chiyotaikai had been ozeki for something like three years before he had one. These were both around March 2006. My first wikipedia edit, in December 2005, was in the main sumo article. At that time, I can't believe I wasn't blown away that the likes of Chiyotaikai had no article. I guess people who came a little later than the earlier wiki users couldn't imagine starting articles on their own. You probably remember, but I thought it would be interesting to mention there was a REALLY productive period in Jan-Feb 2007 where A LOT of wrestler articles etc. were added. It's crazy. So much energy and manpower back then. I had also forgotten just how many of the yaocho retirees had articles that I started in 2010. I was starting to enjoy making wrestler articles more around that time and I created a number of articles for lower makuuchi guys who seemed like it was about time. Of course, these also happened to be guys just up from juryo, where the wheeling and dealing was being uncovered. Anyway.... FourTildes (talk) 23:09, 3 December 2011 (UTC)
- There were no "past" rikishi that began their career in the 2000s, when I/we finally finished the "past wrestlers". Soon after, Wakanoho got in trouble and became the first 2000-er retiree. Now there are 18! Half of them due to yaocho. FourTildes (talk) 23:35, 3 December 2011 (UTC)
match-fixing article
ta-da! You would have found this on your own eventually, but.. Anyway, I only did it because the section had gotten too large and convoluted for a section in the sumo article. I moved most of it to a new article match-fixing in professional sumo and article-ized it. You may want to make some changes. Take a look when you have time. :) FourTildes (talk) 23:56, 9 December 2011 (UTC)
Updates
Yeah, I saw you did some article updates. Thanks. I jumped right on the updates hours after the banzuke came out. As I may have said - I get a buzz out of doing the updates. I know it is simple data entry but I really dig doing it for some reason. Especially reordering the active page is something I enjoy. I honestly think I would have lost a lot of interest in sumo if I didn't have wiki to keep me coming back. FourTildes (talk) 14:49, 22 December 2011 (UTC)
Disambiguation link notification
Hi. In your recent article edits, you've added some links pointing to disambiguation pages. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Nada
As in "Tochinonada" :) I added some dates to the "records" article as he has retired (actually an anonymous user updated one which clued me in, but he/she got the date wrong). I am curious whether his top tournament bouts number is up to date? I don't know how to check because adding wins plus losses from the sumoref etc. sites does not come up with the prescribed number. It doesn't count fusensho maybe you told me? Where do you go to get this info, out of curiosity? FourTildes (talk) 20:48, 6 March 2012 (UTC)
- I guess I just never trusted that last number because it wasn't the total of wins and losses, so I got used to simply ignoring it. I trusted your calculations (and sumorefef's) I just wanted to be sure he was up to date as a few dates had not been updated.
btw, did you see the sumo glossary got caught in some one man against the world edit war? He thinks all glossaries should be renamed with "terms" cut off the end of the title. I actually agree with his logic, but his draconian methods trump any other issues. FourTildes (talk) 20:55, 7 March 2012 (UTC)
I was itching
to make a new wrestler article (don't mind making them as much as I did) when I saw your "active" update, and saw that no one in makuuchi with no article shows signs of being a keeper. I am more wary now than before after I realized one of my most productive periods in wrestler article making turned to be the time that so many yaocho caughtees were getting promoted to makuuchi, and they were soon relegated to the past.. Disambiguation link notification for April 6
Hi. When you recently edited 2012 in sumo, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Fujisawa (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Kyokutenho etc.
