Souboz is a municipality in the Jura bernois administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland. It is located in the French-speaking Bernese Jura (Jura Bernois).

Souboz has an area of 10.6 km2 (4.1 sq mi). Of this area, 37.9% is used for agricultural purposes, while 59.5% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 2.3% is settled (buildings or roads) and the remainder (0.4%) is non-productive (rivers, glaciers or mountains).[1]

Demographics

Souboz has a population (as of 31 December 2020) of 132.[2] As of 2007, 3.9% of the population was made up of foreign nationals. Over the last 10 years the population has decreased at a rate of 0%. Most of the population (as of 2000) speaks French (73.0%), with German being second most common (26.1%) and Portuguese being third ( 0.9%).

In the 2007 election the most popular party was the SVP which received 42.3% of the vote. The next three most popular parties were the SPS (25.8%), the Green Party (16.5%) and the FDP (9.5%).

The age distribution of the population (as of 2000) is children and teenagers (0–19 years old) make up 22.6% of the population, while adults (20–64 years old) make up 63.5% and seniors (over 64 years old) make up 13.9%. In Souboz about 60.6% of the population (between age 25-64) have completed either non-mandatory upper secondary education or additional higher education (either university or a Fachhochschule).

Souboz has an unemployment rate of 1.96%. As of 2005, there were 34 people employed in the primary economic sector and about 14 businesses involved in this sector. 1 person is employed in the secondary sector and there is 1 business in this sector. 6 people are employed in the tertiary sector, with 3 businesses in this sector.[1]
