QThis user used to have access to Questia through The Wikipedia Library.

Account Coordinator: ChrisGualtieri will be approving accounts and collecting email addresses.

Wikipedia:Questia/Nav Questia is an online research library for books and journal articles focusing on the humanities and social sciences. Questia has curated titles from over 300 trusted publishers, including 77,000 full-text books and 4 million journal, magazine, and newspaper articles, as well as encyclopedia entries. Paid access to Questia costs $99 per year.

As of August 2012 Questia has generously agreed to give free, full-access 1-year accounts for 2000 Wikipedia editors to use, distributed at the discretion of the community. Editors will need a 1-year-old account and 1000 edits in order to qualify. At the end of 1 year, editors who found the resource useful can simply re-apply.

Requirements

  • You do not have free online access to these Questia products through your local library or university
  • You have your preferences enabled to receive email messages on English Wikipedia; (see Special:Preferences)
  • You have an account that is a minimum of 1 year old
  • You have a minimum of 1000 edits to the encyclopedia
  • You are active in content generation, research, and/or verification work
  • If you previously had access to Questia and the account has expired, you can reapply.

If you don't quite meet the experience requirements but think you would still be a strong candidate for access, feel free to apply and you may be considered.

Expectations

Approved editors may
  • Search, view, retrieve, and display portions of restricted content
  • Electronically save portions of restricted content
  • Print out single copies of portions of restricted content
  • Comply with any terms and conditions which appear on the particular pages of the Questia website they are accessing
Approved editors will not
  • Share their account logins or passwords with others
  • Mass scrape or mass download Questia content
  • Systematically make printed or electronic copies of multiple extracts of restricted content available for any purpose
  • Datamine metadata without permission, in order, for instance, to use metadata for auto-created stub articles
  • Use the access provided through the Pilot for any commercial purpose
Private and confidential information
  • You will need to have a confirmed email address to participate. You understand and agree that your name and email address may be shared with representatives of the Wikimedia Foundation, Wikipedia Library, and Questia Online Library. While Wikipedia Library coordinators are volunteers (not employees or contractors of the Wikimedia Foundation or Questia Online Library), they have signed confidentiality agreements with the Wikimedia Foundation with regards to the personal information they may handle for the Wikipedia Library.

Citation

  • Editors should always provide original citation information, in addition to linking a Questia article, per WP:V and WP:SAYWHEREYOUGOTIT
  • Editors should not provide bare links to non-free Questia pages
  • Editors should note "(subscription required)" in the citation, where appropriate
Examples
<ref>{{cite web|title=National implementation committee approves funds for Swami Vivekananda values' education project|url=http://www.questia.com/doc/1P3-2131107461.html#|publisher=US Fed News Service, Including US State News |accessdate=14 April 2012|date=September 2010|subscription=yes|via=[[Questia]]}}</ref>
  • "National implementation committee approves funds for Swami Vivekananda values' education project". US Fed News Service, Including US State News. September 2010. Retrieved 14 April 2012 – via Questia. {{cite web}}: Unknown parameter |subscription= ignored (|url-access= suggested) (help)

If citing a book, optionally adding the ISBN of the cited book (found inside the Questia book, on its copyright page) increases both accessibility and verifiability for those without Questia access, who may then use the automatically-generated ISBN hyperlink. ISBNs can be included in many citation templates (including cite web), by means of the |isbn= parameter. Alternatively, as in the example below, immediately after (outside) the citation and Questia reference templates, simply type the acronym ISBN (with no punctuation) followed by one space and then the 13-digit (preferred) or 10-digit ISBN.

  3. Mahensingha (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) I've been an editor for almost five years and have around 1,000 edits. It will be a great help in Content creation and sourcing, if given access to library.--Mahensingha (talk) 10:08, 15 January 2015 (UTC) --  Done[reply]
  4. Ethically Yours (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) I create a lot of articles. I also extend articles significantly and I see access to Questia will greatly benefit. I have been here for more than a year with 5000+ global contributions, and 4000+ edits here. Primarily extend film articles, place DYK's but also would like to extend into dominions of books and more. Questia will be a huge help. Thanks. EthicallyYours! 09:06, 31 January 2015 (UTC)  Done[reply]
  5. MrX (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) (Renewal) - Questia has been an excellent resource. My main areas of interest are biographies, science, and history. I have created 164 articles and have just under 50,000 edits. Thanks for your consideration.- MrX 19:16, 3 February 2015 (UTC)  Done[reply]

  7. Fluffernutter (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) My Questia access seems to have expired. I'd like to renew it so I can continue working on articles about events that were widely covered in the news. A fluffernutter is a sandwich! (talk) 17:59, 10 February 2015 (UTC)  Done[reply]
  8. Harrias (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) This looks like it would be a great resource for the local history article I am currently working on. I am very much a content creator, with a number of Good and Featured articles to my name, and would love access to more sources! Harrias talk 15:21, 17 February 2015 (UTC)  Done[reply]
  9. CasualObserver'48 (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) (Renewal) Editor since 2007, 7300 edits, over 80% in articles. Active in areas of MidEast, I/P, early US history, European history, and development of water resource infrastructure. Questia is a wonderful resource, and access to it is greatly appreciated. 10. AllyD (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email)) My Questia account has expired. I would like it restored to continue using it as a source for referencing and in AfD discussions. AllyD (talk) 20:44, 2 March 2015 (UTC)  Done[reply]
  11. SciGal (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email)) (Renewal) My Questia account is a month of being expired. I haven't used it that much due to a need to have a couple of unexpected and sudden mini-wikibreaks due to external circumstances, but I have found it useful in content generation, particularly over in WikiProject: Florida. Is there any way that I can get my account renewed? SciGal (talk) 18:21, 3 March 2015 (UTC)  Done[reply]
  12. Apwoolrich (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email)I've been an editor for 10 years, and am currently working on Rees's Cyclopaedia and the music articles therein of Charles Burney.Apwoolrich (talk) 15:03, 4 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  13. Karanacs (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) I've written about 20 FAs, primarily focused on the history of Texas and the Mexican borderlands before 1845 and romance novels. Although I was mostly retired for several years, I returned to active editing last year and in the last three months have nominated one article for FA and created another 10. This would help me create or improve many more. Karanacs (talk) 20:55, 4 March 2015 (UTC)  Done[reply]
  14. Miyagawa (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) My Questia account expired a couple of months ago. I've been previously using it in content generation, I've found it particularly useful to access book sources stored on there. I figured I would delay applying for it once again until I needed it, and I need it again. :) Miyagawa (talk) 21:26, 4 March 2015 (UTC)  Done[reply]
  15. GFox (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) I’m Russian Wikipedian, mainly writing about Japanese comics and animation. There are no much available Russian language sources about this topic, but I found Questia has a lot of sources I could use for improving articles on RuWiki (I wrote my request from another account, so I can confirm identity if it needed). 16. Max51 (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) I would like to use it to create new articles (in portuguese) and improve existing ones in the fields of philosophy and social sciences. I had access to ProQuest for a brief period of time, but now I'm only using free access sources. Max51 (talk) 04:56, 8 March 2015 (UTC)  Not done - Still no e-mail address.[reply]

  19. Drekamu (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) - I edit lots of science and history-related articles, so this would be useful in accessing more information than can be obtained solely from the abstracts of scientific papers. Since I found good sources on Questia to my history-related stuff, the Questia account will be a great help to my contributions. Thank you for consideration. -- Drekamu (talk) 12:55, 13 March 2015 (UTC) -  Not done - No user e-mail address.[reply]

  21. Jan.Kamenicek (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) I need the access to restricted articles for my work both at the English and Czech Wikipedia on history topics. At Czech Wikipedia I also take part in reviewing processes. Recently I have made a resource request here at English Wikipedia and received help together with the advice to ask for Questia account. The sources on Questia would be a great help. --Jan Kameníček (talk) 21:56, 22 March 2015 (UTC)  Done[reply]

  23. Phalaris (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email). I'm sorry Chris, but in my email folder I don't find (or, more probably, my email server has cancelled) the credentials for the Questia access that you've sent me. Can you re-send them to me? I've enabled my email in wiki, so now it is for me possible to receive emails (at least, I believe this possible). Thanks!! --Phalaris 13:00, 16 April 2015 (UTC)  Done[reply]
  24. Huji (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) I had access to Questia before, for one year, and used it to expand articles on English Wikipedia about Flamenco music. I did not ask for renewal because I got busy with other responsibilities in Wikimedia. I recently stepped down from some of my other responsibilities and have time to spend on content generation again. I'd like to regain access to Questia and continue my work in the same area. hujiTALK 15:35, 26 April 2015 (UTC)  Done[reply]
  25. Jefferyseow (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) I edit entries related to 19th Century British Malaya (the Federated Malay States, Unfederated Malay States, and the Straits Settlements, especially Penang and Singapore). Sources are hard to find and access to this would help.
  26. We hope (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) Here 5 years with 45,000+ edits. I work on entertainment articles for the most part, but also on others such as both of the Waldorf-Astoria ones. Am hoping to do something more with articles like Perry Como and Ernie Kovacs and see that Questia has some articles I could use for this. We hope (talk) 12:40, 28 April 2015 (UTC)  Done[reply]

  30. Racconish (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) 70,000+ contributions on different projects, of which half on WPfr. I have used Questia for 1 year and appreciate it very much : the sources accessible through Questia are often different from those available elsewhere. I used Questia a lot : for mediation, for articles on history, on litterature, on cinema; etc. This is really one of the best tools in the Wikipedia library.
