You can help!). Sometimes I forget that I was copying and pasting something else, and sometimes, that accidentally carries over to my edit summary. Examples can be seen here: [1] and [2]. Personal attack?

On Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jean-Paul Floru you wrote "Also, no personal attacks, Golux". I can't see where I made one. But then I resemble only half the things I say I don't, and the other half resemble me. The Golux 17:05, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

I think that's a personal attack. You may not think so, but nonetheless, just avoid any comments that might seem negative to other users or subjects of articles.

Hi! I added a link to JimHougan.com from the Whitehouse Plumbers entry. Jim has posted some new work on the subject from his site. I thought it was informative. Was I wrong?

Sure, you accept a nomination from this Nishkid64 guy but not from me? :) Eh, it's just as well; of the last three editors whom I nominated or offered to nominate, one was indefinitely blocked and one voluntarily relenquished his adminship at the request of six other users (consistent with Category:Administrators open to recall). On a different note, I should once more apologize for having failed to reply to your altogether cordial note, but I will get back to you in a day or two about the baseball portal, and I think it'd be wholly reasonable for you to assume responsibility for the poral then. mlb.com images

Hi Nishkid. I saw you RfA listing and began looking through your contributions when I noticed that you've uploaded about 100 player portraits from mlb.com, tagging them as {{promotional}}. One problem is that none of them contain fair use rationales. The more important problem is that they do not meet criterion #1 of WP:FUC. As these players are living, and especially because they are active and perform in public 162 times a year, there is ample opportunity for contributors to take their own photographs and release them under free licenses. We need images like that, that like their articles' text, can be used anywhere, by anyone. The problem with using these photographs, even in the short term, and even if they are intended for publicity purposes (and I'm not certain these are), is that it greatly hurts our chances of acquiring the free alternatives. Thanks for addressing the issue. I remember that before I first started uploading these images, I asked some admin about it and he said it was okay (if memory serves me correctly). I saw that other users had uploaded from mlb.com and tagged it as {{promotional}} and I thought I could also do the same.

Although I am still a bit confused on this image copyright business, I know that I was once in a situation in which I replaced a user-created picture of Albert Pujols with my fair use from mlb.com. I did not know it at the time, but he told me about my mistake, and I learned to avoid adding fair use images to certain pages. I believe that most of the images I have added were to baseball players who really aren't that notable in baseball, with a few exceptions here and there.

I might have missed this while reading the fair use criteria, but when someone gets a free image, can't they just remove my fair use image and replace it with the free alternative?

I really appreciate any response that can help me understand this whole fair use business.

Yeah, there are lot of extra-policy examples throughout the project, so you can not always go by what you see in other articles. FUC #1 exists largely because we need to encourage people to contribute free images, like Image:Pujols3.jpg, and an imageless article is much better advertising for participation than one with a professionally taken photograph. Would you be willing to save others the trouble and orphan these hundred yourself? ×Meegs 19:49, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

I will do it to a certain few, but not all. I am saying this because some of the guys I got pictures for are not nearly as notable as others in baseball, and I doubt many of them will have their free images taken. However, in a few days (I got a bunch of essays due on Friday), I'll see which ones I would like to orphan, and I'll share the list with you. Regardless of the player's popularity, they are all accessible, so none of the photos fall within policy. Someone, eventually, is going to have to remove them all. It's easier done all at once, and it's better if it's you. It doesn't have to happen right away, but as they too are now setting bad examples, the sooner the better. Program Feature: Barnstar Brigade Here in Wikipedia there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go unappreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go unnoticed. As Esperanzians we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. This is where the Barnstar Brigade comes in. The object of this program is to seek out the people which deserve a Barnstar, and help them feel appreciated. With your help, we can recognize more dedicated editors! What's New? September elections are upon us! Anyone wishing to be a part of the Advisory Council may list themselves as a candidate from 18 September until 24 September, with the voting taking place from 25 September to 30 September. Those who wish to help with the election staff should also list themselves! Appreciation Week, a program currently in development, now has its own subpage! LOL, nice job, you got it! I've found three times lately where an admin has forgotten to check the history of articles marked for speedy and they missed that the article was vandalized and replaced with something ridiculous with a speedy tag. When the admin forgets to check the article history in a case like that and just deletes away, it's almost impossible to find since all hints of the article are removed from everyone's user contributions. All someone might notice is a red link in their watch list or a red link somewhere else. Finding other articles vandalized similarly by the vandal would be literally impossible since they didn't actually do the deletion. You'd need to look through the deletion logs of every admin. Zune Ellen Degeneres portion deletion

Well, Nishkid, I deleted that portion of the Zune page because I felt that no page should have one-sentence portions. I simply put that sentence at the end of, but seperated from, the rest of the criticisms portion, because, from an aesthetic point of view, it seemed more fitting to show that, despite its criticisms, the Zune has still been able to enter pop culture. I'm sorry that you felt that I was wrong, but I still believe that I was right in deleting that portion.
