Early life and education

Arless was born in Montréal in 1949. After more than 30 years of entrepreneurial experience, Arless completed his MBA in at the John Molson School of Business at Concordia University in Montréal in 2008.[4]

Career

In 1971, Arless took a position with Smith & Nephew, a British medical equipment company, staying there for 17 years. His experience there cultivated a comprehensive knowledge of the medical device industry. He was CEO of North American operations from 1986-1990.[3]

Arless was instrumental in the development of CryoCath Technologies Inc. from a small medical technology start-up to an industry leader in cryotherapy technology, specifically catheter ablation used to treat heart arrhythmias. After Arless had worked at CryoCath for ten years (1996-2006) and had attracted sizable private and public investment, CryoCath was sold to Medtronic Inc. for $400 million CAD.[5]

Arless took a position as the interim CEO of Resonant Medical from 2007-2008, while completing his Master’s in Business Administration at Concordia University.[6] Resonant Medical went on to be sold to the Swedish medical technology company Elekta AB in 2010 for $30 million CAD.[7]

Arless relocated to Cleveland, Ohio in 2009 to become CEO of CardioInsight, another company marketing and advancing research in cardiovascular technology (also acquired by Medtronic Inc., in 2015)[2][8] Arless stepped down from his position at CardioInsight in 2012.[9][10]

Arless became a strategic angel investor in the medical technology sector, and co-founded medical device company, Soundbite Medical Solutions, using wire devices to treat occlusions caused by coronary and peripheral artery disease with shockwaves.[11] Arless recently stepped down from his role as CEO and will continue as Chairman of the Board at Soundbite.[12]

Areless is a Professor of Practice at Mcgill University.[4]
