General Education (film)General Education – Removing unneeded disambiguation {{u|Sdkb}}talk 18:30, 5 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

This is a contested technical request (permalink). Anthony Appleyard (talk) 22:33, 5 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose General Education should be a disambiguation page / set index. WP:ASTONISH; there are several proper nouns that could be referred to thusly. Like the Ministry of General Education -- 64.229.90.53 (talk) 18:51, 6 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think anyone searching for "General education" could reasonably expect to get the ministry page. If they wanted the ministry rather than the thing the ministry was named after, they'd have searched for the ministry. {{u|Sdkb}}talk 21:42, 7 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose General education redirects to curriculum, do we need a disambiguation page. In ictu oculi (talk) 16:58, 7 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Note sdkb nominated General Education at RfD, but I have procedurally closed that discussion in favour of this one. Thryduulf (talk) 21:00, 7 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Note General education was a disambiguation page until boldly redirected to Curriculum by sdkb yesterday. Thryduulf (talk) 21:00, 7 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment Apologies for the procedural complexity; it got stuck in multiple places. Basically, I think the primary topic of the term "general education" is the sense related to curriculum, since that's what everything else is named after. The first two definitions at the old dab page—1. Secondary education 2. A basic coursework program for post-secondary schools (see curriculum), i.e. university, college, etc.—were both this. Someone could probably write an article on general education (we have several articles on specific core curricula at e.g. Columbia), but that's for the future. The only other definition was the film. General Education (capitalized) could go either to the film or to curriculum, each with a hatnote. I don't think Journal of General Education, which was a see also, needs to come into this or appear as a hatnote, since the name has "journal" very clearly in it and I don't think anyone who searched "general education" could reasonably expect the journal. So unless there are other works titled "General Education", I don't see a need for a dab page. {{u|Sdkb}}talk 21:20, 7 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose: While I liked this proposal initially, having two General Education pages with only a difference in capitalization may conflict with each other. I recommend deleting General Education (uppercase) per WP:2R, and converting General education (lowercase) into a disambiguation page. — CJDOS, Sheridan, OR (talk) 21:47, 7 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@CJDOS, I argued in my comment immediately above that there is a clear primary topic, and that only one hatnote that we know of would be required at that topic. Why is a full disambiguation page necessary? (And even if one is necessary, it should be at General education (disambiguation) with the primary topic going to curriculum (and in the future the article on general education). {{u|Sdkb}}talk 21:51, 7 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
