Norman Edward "Ted" Toleman (14 March 1938 – 10 April 2024) was the British principal and founder of the Toleman Formula One team.[1] He died in the Philippines on 10 April 2024, at the age of 86.[2]

Biography

Toleman, originally a car transporter businessman in Essex, had a varied life that intersected with multiple industries. Adopted as a child, he later ventured into agriculture, managing a banana farm and a restaurant in South Africa. However, tragic events prompted him to relocate after his son Gary was fatally shot there. Additionally, Toleman faced another devastating loss when his brother Bob passed away in a racing accident during the 1970s.

Despite these hardships, Toleman remained connected to the world of motorsport as an advisor and even participated in Australia's Mini Challenge Series for a period. Beyond racing, he maintained interests in powerboating and yachting. Toleman also pursued business ventures in both Australia and the Philippines.[1]
