Patrizia Laquidara

Patrizia Laquidara (Catania, October 29, 1972) is an Italian singer.

Biography

Patrizia Laquidara was born in Catania, in the Sicily island. When she was very young his family moved to a small town in northern Italy, region Veneto, province of Vicenza, where she began studying music and playing in pianobars during week-ends.

In 1998 she attends a course at CET music shool, as author and singer of popular music of Lombardy and Veneto. This school is run by the well known Mogol, who wrote the texts of Lucio Battisti songs. She is also interested to the music of many Mediterranean countries and to the music of central Europe and balcanic region. She is often in tour in Italy with her group, the Hotel Rif.

In 1999 one of her songs, "Stella nascente" is included in an album titled "Canzoni per Ornella Vanoni e Mario Lavezzi", but her true love at the time is for brazilian music. Her first solo album, in 2001, is in fact titled "Para você querido Caé" (For you, dear Caetano) and is dedicated to the brazilian singer Caetano Veloso.

Just after this album, her song "Agisce", written with the collaboration of Bungaro, wins the Città di Recanati prize, as best music and interpretation.

In 2003 she participates to the Sanremo Festival with the song "Lividi e fiori" and wins the Mia Martini Critics Prize and the Alex Baroni prize for best interpretation. The same year she releases her second album, titled "Indirizzo portoghese" and sings its songs during the tour Indirizzo portoghese live.

At the same time she develops many other projects, collaborating with the pianiste Debora Petrina or composing songs for the soundrack of the 2005 movie Manuale d'amore, directed by Giovanni Veronesi. The song "Noite e luar", in portuguese language, becomes well known in Italy.

In 2006 she participates to the international festival of ethnical and contemporary music named "Suoni dell'altro mondo" (Sounds from another world) and also to the '"Premio Tenco".

In 2007 she releases her third album, "Funambola", produced by Arto Linday and Patrick Dillett. The album is dedicated to the tightrope walker Philippe Petit, that walked on a steel wire put between the Twin Towers, in New York. She receives also the "Gold Mask Prize" by the Bologna Conservatory, as popular music singer.

In 2008 she is in tour all around Italy with Funambola and sings in a musical theatre piece by Massimo Carlotto.
She sings also with the pianiste Alfonso Santimone, looking for electronic sonorities as well as rediscovering old japanese songs, showing this way all the eclecticism of her art.
She also sings in the show "Creuza de luna", a poetical and musical journey going from Italy and arriving to South America, throughout Spain and Portugal.
She participates to Etnafest in Catania, sings during the Festivalguer of Alghero and at the Cagliari Expo.
Late in December, Patrizia presents a video from her song "Ziza", in a tv show on Rai Due.

During 2009 she participates to the show "Musica dei cieli" (Music of skies) and to a traditional Italian Christmas songs concert in the big Rome Auditorium.
She is also present at the "New Sicilian Song Festival", with the song "Su li stiddi", then goes to Lisbon for the "Festa do Cinema Italiano", a film festival, where her song "Personaggio" is the cover. She sings in three concerts, the most important being at the Cabaret Maxime.
She flies then to Morocco, in Casablanca, with the show "Popular music of the Mediterranean".
After coming back to Italy, she receives the Giovanni Paisiello prize, a part of "Magna Grecia Awards", with the following motivation: "The musical event, the balance between the high pichtes and the shades in the pronunciation of words, make his voice a unique melody, Patrizia Laquidara emphasizes old sonorities and enters the scene, barefoot, to leave her untold impressions in the intimate sactum of every heart, that opens with her to new rhythms".
Her song "Assenza" is then included in the album "Capo Verde terra d'amore vol. I", a compilation of songs of Cape Verde musicians, sung by them and Italian singers. The takings of this album are given to the UN food program for childs.
She participates to a show on the national television channel Rai Due, where she announces her July 2009 tour in the United States, along with the brazilian singer CéU.
