YOBI.tv is the free online talent contest network.[1] The site combines social networks, user-generated videos, and reality talent contests. YOBI.tv features talent based user-generated videos.[2] Contestants compete for cash prizes as well as grand prizes that have included trips to the Grammy Awards, Sundance Film Festival and similar venues.[3]

History

A Yobibyte is the largest binary prefix, and it is from this term that YOBI.tv gets its name.[4] YOBI, LLC was founded by entrepreneur Dianne Victor of West Bloomfield, Michigan.[5] The host of YOBI.tv is Audrina Patridge, most known for her primary role in the MTV reality series The Hills.[6]

Contests

Other than Make the Cut, all contests run on a seasonal basis similar to TV show seasons.[2]

Contest List

At present, YOBI.tv has five contest areas:

Make the Cut

Make the Cut is a web series featuring an online vocal talent competition hosted and judged by American Idol's eighth season fifth place contestant Matt Giraud.[7] This contest is a multi-round progressive elimination competition in which the winner will cut a recording at a studio in Metro Detroit and receive guidance from Matt Giraud and other industry professionals.[8]

YOBI World

The philanthropy section of YOBI. It is the area for charity organizations and groups to be heard. Organizations can create profiles and blogs.[9] Victor founded a nonprofit organization, One Village One World, to support economic development in impoverished African villages. Five percent of YOBI’s profits will go to support this organization.[2]

Yoko Ono expressed interest in YOBI World after corresponding with YOBI, LLC owner Dianne Victor. Ono created a profile on YOBI World and added a YOBI World link to her Imagine Peace website.[2] [10]

YOBI Show

The show is hosted by Danielle Ryan and actor/activist Jeremy Sumpter known for the lead role in 2003's Peter Pan film and currently playing in the show, Friday Night Lights.[11] The YOBI show typically features weekly winners, semifinalists, and finalists. The hosts also go over news regarding the website.
