Overview

The project coordinators are generally responsible for maintaining all of the procedural and administrative aspects of the project, and serve as the designated points-of-contact for procedural issues. They are not, however, endowed with any special executive powers.

The Lead Coordinator bears overall responsibility for coordinating the project; the Coordinators aid the Lead Coordinator and focus on specific areas that require special attention.

Responsibilities

From Wikipedia:WikiProject Films/Coordinators:

The primary responsibility of the project coordinators is the maintenance and housekeeping work involved in keeping the project and its internal processes running smoothly; this includes a variety of tasks, such as keeping the announcement and open task lists updated, overseeing the assessment and review processes, managing the proposal and creation of task forces, and so forth. There is fairly little involved that couldn't theoretically be done by any other editor, of course—in only a few places have the coordinators been explicitly written into a process—but, since experience suggests that people tend to assume that someone else is doing whatever needs to be done, it has proven beneficial to formally delegate responsibility for this administrative work to a specified group.

The coordinators also have several additional roles. They serve as the project's designated points of contact, and are explicitly listed as people to whom questions can be directed in a variety of places around the project. They also try to regularly contribute to the reviews involving film-related articles, looking out in particular for reviews which require additional voices. In addition, they have highly informal roles in leading the drafting of project guidelines, overseeing the implementation of project decisions on issues like category schemes and template use, and helping to informally resolve disputes and keep discussions from becoming heated and unproductive. The coordinators are not, however, a body for formal dispute resolution; serious disputes should be addressed through the normal dispute resolution process.

Some more specific examples of day-to-day coordinator work can be found here.

Election process

  • The nominations period is currently open for two weeks, starting on September 30 and ending at 23:59 (UTC) on October 14. However, if the candidate pool does not exceed the number of open positions (5) by at least 5 nominations by the end of the nominations period, then nominations will be allowed through to the end of the voting period.
  • The election will run for two weeks, starting at 00:01 (UTC) on October 15 and ending at 23:59 (UTC) on October 29.
  • Any member of the project may nominate themselves for a position by adding their statement in the "Candidates" section below by the start of the election. The following boilerplate can be used:

  • The election will be conducted using simple approval voting. Any member of the project may support as many of the candidates as they wish. The candidate with the highest number of endorsements will become the Lead Coordinator (provided he or she is willing to assume the post); the next four candidates will become Coordinators. The coordinators will serve a term of one year. The number of Coordinators may be increased if there is a tie or near-tie for the last position.
  • Both project members and interested outside parties are encouraged to ask questions of the nominees or make general comments.

Erik.

Erik (talk · contribs)

I'm Erik, and I've been a coordinator several times before. I have a constant presence on WikiProject Film's main talk page and have racked up a few too many edits on it. I strive to keep myself attuned to film-related discussions through this link and to express a third opinion if a conflict appears to be brewing. I've also provided numerous write-ups for Manual of Style/Film; I try to establish best practices but am wary of being too restrictive. I have worked on numerous film articles during my time on Wikipedia and have learned to research all sorts of topics related to film. The coordinator position is a behind-the-scenes role, and I'd like to find ways to help editors via instructional pages, as it seems ideal to center most discussions at the main talk page. I'm currently part of a discussion to collaborate on a few articles for films' anniversaries next year, and I'd like to encourage more of that, having had Fight Club on the main page for its 10th anniversary. It's kind of neat to see what people on Twitter and elsewhere have to say about such an appearance. I want WikiProject Film to reach out to editors registered and unregistered, to help them or at least point them to our ever-popular talk page. I want the WikiProject to provide guidance on film-related tasks such as research (see User:Erik/Research) and extracting video clips for use in articles. Thanks for reading if you made it this far!

Comments and questions for Erik

  • What have been the achievements of which you are most proud within WikiProject Film?
    • I'm proud to be particularly active on the WikiProject's main talk page. I think that the talk page is one of the most active among WikiProjects. I try to encourage its activity by prompting discussion, notifying of ongoing processes (FAC, requested move), and responding to others' questions or thoughts.
  • What skills/qualities can you contribute as a Film coordinator?
    • Discussion is my forte, but I am conscious of keeping my statements relatively short and not engaging in too much back-and-forth when there's a stalemate. I also try to propose alternative solutions wherever possible. As an editor and a past coordinator, I am also pretty familiar with WikiProject Film's variety of pages. I've also been around long enough to be familiar with other processes outside the WikiProject (XFD pages, WP:AIV, etc).

Sjones23

Sjones23 (talk · contribs)

I am Sjones23 and have been active in Wikipedia since 2006. In particular, I have been active in expanding and improving Japanese and American film articles. I want to help newcomers find their way around the relevant policies and guidelines. During my time on Wikipedia, I have learned a lot while working on numerous film articles and find research. I have also tried to add production material wherever necessary as well as reception and music.

Comments and questions for Sjones23

  • What have been the achievements of which you are most proud within WikiProject Film?
    • I am proud to have been involved in expanding Summer Wars and getting it to Good Article status, and promoting The Care Bears Movie and Final Fantasy VII Advent Children to Good Article status. I am also proud of resolving some disputes on the main article talk page and trimming the plot sections in various articles via guidelines.
  • What skills/qualities can you contribute as a Film coordinator?
    • Some of these skills are discussion and pointing out relevant policies to new users. I am very familiar with this WikiProject's variety of pages. I try to prevent edit wars from happening. I also try to help provide solutions if there is a dispute or discussion on what we should do. I have been around to be familiar with processes outside of the WikiProjects (i.e. WP:AFD, WP:AIV, WP:RFPP, WP:XFD, WP:RFC).

MichaelQSchmidt.

MichaelQSchmidt (talk · contribs)

Howdy. I'm MichaelQSchmidt. I've enjoyed my last term as one of the coordinators serving the project through Project Film and would like to continue. I've been a contributing editor since January, 2008 and after a rough start became quite involved in articles associated with film, television, and actors... accumulating over 34,000 edits in under 4 years. I've been happy to assist newcomers in understanding the ins and outs of Wikipedia in relationship to film articles. I am proudest of two essays I wrote directed toward rank newcomers to these pages: the assistance eassay WP:A Primer for newcomers, and the cautionary essay WP:Wikipedia is not about YOU.

Comments and questions for MichaelQSchmidt

  • What have been the achievements of which you are most proud within WikiProject Film?
    • I keep plugging away improving film articles as needed, and encouraging others to be more proactive in their own improvements. As of today...
      • I have contributed 62 articles about film or actors
      • I have "rescued" 395 articles by improving them in the face of deletion so that they would better serve the project.
      • and I have authored several film-related essays to advise and assit editors in their consideration of articles and notability:
Editors are invited to read and share
      Wikipedia:PRIMER,
      Wikipedia:NOTABOUTYOU,
      Wikipedia:TOOSOON,
      Wikipedia:IMPROVEIT,
      Wikipedia:GNGACTOR, and
      Wikipedia:FFILM.
  • What skills/qualities can you contribute as a Film coordinator?
    • The "skills" I best contribute is my patience and decent google-foo when it comes to digging for the sources that an article requires to show notability. Being an actor myself, I have a good sense of just where to find the gold, and I dig. To that diligence I will continue working to improve articles that have suffered from lack of effort and will continue assiting those who seek help in improving them.
  • Are you the same Michael Q. Schmidt from Tim and Eric?

Lugnuts.

Lugnuts (talk · contribs) I'm even more unsure than I was this time last year of exactly why we need any co-ordinators. Everything I've done for the Film Project, would have been done whether or not I was a co-ordinator. In short, these "posts" are token jobs that add no real value, something I've raised before. All the major changes have been done via consensus on the project's talkpage and related pages. Well, if you count major changes as discussing the need for underscores in the field-name in the infobox, a capital W in article titles and other such trivial items. Does anyone actually edit and create content anymore? So use your support vote as a form of protest against this unnecessary and unneeded function.

All the best, Lugnuts.

Comments and questions for Lugnuts

  • What have been the achievements of which you are most proud within WikiProject Film?
    • Creating around 10,000 film, actor and director articles. That's 10,000 non-talkpage edits.
  • What skills/qualities can you contribute as a Film coordinator?
    • Editing articles instead of wasting my time over trivial discussions (see above).

Grapple X

Grapple X (talk · contribs)

I'm not going to lie to you guys, I wouldn't vote for me. I do the kind of gnome work that any member could do with or without a fancy title, and I'm not going to do more or less of it if I'm picked for the position. I've been here for just shy of a year now, and while I don't really have a speciality in editing (for instance I'm working on achieving a Television good topic and a MilHist A-class article), I do have a history in studying film. I guess the impetus behind nominating myself is from the recent decision to change WP:FILMCORE's list and the ensuing projects surrounding that, which I hope to help encourage other members to participate in when we begin in earnest. It's up to you guys if you want me doing that with a prefix or not.

Slainté, GRAPPLE X

Comments and questions for Grapple X

  • What have been the achievements of which you are most proud within WikiProject Film?
    • Most proud of personally? Writing the Manhunter article from scratch, which I'm hoping to bring to FA eventually. However, I'd say my best "achievement" in terms of the greater good of the project is my willingness to jump into any debate or conversation armed with the relevant guidelines and as cool a head as an Irishman can muster.
  • What skills/qualities can you contribute as a Film coordinator?
    • Thankless gnome work, co-ordination of future and present collaborations, a genial contact-point for new users, and a handsome face.

Bovineboy2008.

Bovineboy2008 (talk · contribs)

I have been contributing to Wikipedia for many years with a majority of my edits in the Film project. Although I work behind the scenes a lot, making category edits and moving articles, I do weigh in to conversation where I feel my opinion is needed. I feel that if we have a strong coordinator system, then we would have a good working order for consistency and quality editing.

Comments and questions for Bovineboy2008

  • What have been the achievements of which you are most proud within WikiProject Film?
    • Creating the template {{Film date}}. It is now a standard template used in infoboxes and leads to a consistent tagging and formatting of articles. I hope to create more templates like these.
  • What skills/qualities can you contribute as a Film coordinator?
    • Not only do I make hundreds of page edits, I also am able to keep a civil tongue in discussions which allow for growth in the project.

As I said in the last election, I like to work on film articles that no one else seems to care about, but I do like collaborating with other editors.

Comments and questions for MikeAllen

  • What have been the achievements of which you are most proud within WikiProject Film?
    • I've been working on the Saw articles and I have the first, sixth and seventh installment as a Good Article. Other article achievements are listed on my userpage. Any articles that I create, I plan to take it to Good Article at some point. I can't just create stubs and leave them there to rot.
  • What skills/qualities can you contribute as a Film coordinator?
    • I have a firm understanding of MOS:FILM and how a good film article should be presented. I'm starting to work on GA reviews, since there is always a backlog of articles needing reviewing. With the right sources (and time) I can turn a stub/start class article into a C/B class with a couple of days. I help any editors that may ask for assistant via my talk page. I give my opinion in discussions at AFD and guideline talk pages.
