Gilbert Annette (born March 10, 1946 in Diego-Suarez, Madagascar) is a politician from Madagascar who served and represented Réunion in the French National Assembly from 1993-1997 . Mayor of Saint-Denis, Réunion since 2008.

Political Career

Member of the Socialist Party (France)

Member of the Départemental Council 1983, then Member of the Regional Council 1988

Mayor of Saint-Denis, Réunion from 1989–1994 and since 2008.

Deputy 1993-1997

Convicted for corruption in 1996, sentenced by 5 years of deprivation of civil rights, fine of 200.000 FRF (30.000 €) and 30 months imprisionnement (of which 12 months had been suspended)

Since 2004 1st secretary of the socialist federation of Reunion.

Elected mayor of Saint-Denis, Réunion in 2008 with 53,83% of votes in the 2nd turn against René-Paul Victoria (UMP - Union pour un mouvement populaire)
