Microsoft Dynamics NAV is an enterprise resource planning software product from Microsoft. The product is part of Microsoft Dynamics.

It has gone through a great many name changes as various companies tried to decide how it should be marketed. This means that the names "Navision Financials", "Navision Attain", "Microsoft Business Solutions Navision Edition" and the current (2006) "Microsoft Dynamics NAV" all refer to essentially the same product.

It is intended to assist with finance, manufacturing, customer relationship management, supply chains, analytics and electronic commerce in Small and Medium-sized Enterprises. However, due to the fact that VARs (and customer if they pay for it) have full access to the business logic source code it can be extensively customised.

On July 11th, 2002, Microsoft bought Navision A/S, the original developer of Navision products to go with it's previous acquisition of Great Plains Dynamics. This also got them Navision Axapta a seperate product with many simularities to "Navision Attain" but with a much more modern technology base.

After the sale Microsoft put a lot of effort into rebranding all three products and released Microsoft Dynamics NAV 4.0 in October 2004. Microsoft will release Microsoft Dynamics NAV 5.0 in 2007.

In 2000 Navision A/S was born from a merger of Navision A/S and Damgaard A/S, both of Denmark. This resulted in the largest company on the Danish stock market, (ousting Carlsberg).

There are over 40,000 installations of Microsoft Dynamics NAV worldwide.

In Q1 of 2006, Microsoft Dynamics NAV passed the 1,000,000th user.
