Presbyterian and Methodist Schools Association
The Presbyterian and Methodist Schools Association (PMSA) is an independent joint not for profit organisation of the Uniting Church in Australia and Presbyterian Church of Queensland. The PMSA's mission is to provide outstanding teaching and learning environments for our students and staff, in schools built on the teachings and examples of Jesus Christ. The PMSA owns and operates four independent schools: Brisbane Boys' College, Somerville House, Clayfield College and Sunshine Coast Grammar School. All the schools owned and managed by the Association are located in Queensland.
The PMSA and the PMSA schools have made a major contribution to Christian education in Queensland. The reason the original joint venture, which began in 1918, has been successful is largely because of the dedication of those men and women who have served its cause so faithfully and well over so many years. This dedication continues, giving confidence for the continued success of the PMSA’s work. In 2018, the PMSA commemorated 100 years of providing an outstanding education and guiding young people with values for life. In a new era of education, the PMSA continues to work hard to evolve and change for the future benefit of all schools.
Despite the name of the PMSA, the 1977 merger of approximately two-thirds of the Presbyterian Church, the entire Methodist Church of Australasia, and almost all of the churches of the Congregational Union of Australia formed the Uniting Church of Australia. All PMSA schools are guided by and practise ecumenical Christian values - relationships, care, ethics, personal development, excellence and celebration.
