Translations of German film titles

The IMDB didn't supply English translations of all those German film titles, so I resorted to Babelfish. I could use some help verifying them. --ChrisWinter 00:08, 5 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Schüsse aus dem GeigenkastenShots from the Violin-case
  • Mordnacht in ManhattanManhattan Night of Murder
  • Um Null Uhr schnappt die Falle zuThe Trap Closes at Midnight
  • Rechnung - eiskalt serviert, DieCold Calculation
  • Mörderclub von Brooklyn, DerMurderers Club of Brooklyn (English title: The Body in Central Park)
  • Dynamit in grüner SeideDynamite in Green Silk
  • Radhapura - Endstation der VerdammtenRadhapura - Last Stop for the Damned
  • Der Tod im roten JaguarDeath in a Red Jaguar
  • Todesschüsse am BroadwayDeadly Shots on Broadway
They are all correct except for Cold Calculation. Rechnung - eiskalt serviert literally translates to The Bill - served ice cold. It refers to the bill you would get in a restaurant or something. --62.225.53.34 01:13, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Something wrong here

If Nader's parents "migrated from Amman,Jordan when he was 12 years old," how could he be born in Pasadena, CA as all his biographers report? Did his parents live in California at the time of his birth, move to Jordan, then come back when he reached the age of 12? ChrisWinter 00:57, 27 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds plausible. -Mardus 02:28, 13 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
His father was from Illinois and his mother was from Kansas. Neither one was Lebanese. Not everyone named "Nader" is of Arab descent. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 06:40, 25 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

All the obits say ‘Lebanese’.What info do you have? 5.148.149.206 (talk) 18:24, 13 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Filmography cleanup

Todo:

  • Wikilink all titles, see if they have existing articles and then remove redlink titles (except those that are disambiguated and that are already linked to by other articles). A title with an existing article is most likely to be left into the list.
  • Titles with existing movie articles can be adorned with wikilinked names of actors and filmmakers.
  • If a title corresponds to an existing article, but the existing article refers to something else, then it's a bit ambiguous: Insert disambiguated wikilinks, but are they worth keeping if the movie is rated under 5.0 in IMDb?
  • Foreign titles must have their pre-positioned articles (such that use words like The) at the beginning; IMDb lists them at the end, while Wikipedia at the beginning.
  • In the proces of reworking titles, add comments into code just before movie titles themselves as to which title should be kept (per mention, lacking a wikilink and good rating) or removed (lacking a wikilink, not mentioned and having a low rating -- see detailed rules below).

  • Create a wikitable and put the data in it.

Some rules of thumb as to which titles to leave, as bringing out the whole filmography appears to be overkill:

  • The cleanup and removal should be separate (probably in stages), so that if anyone dislikes removal, they can revert and clean up themselves.
  • Titles that have wiki articles (despite a low IMDb rating);
  • Titles already mentioned in the article;
  • Titles that are rated 5.0 or above in IMDb;
  • Fringe ratings must be checked over... While at it, all titles could be re-checked for actual ratings. Additional columns could be made that reflect how a title has fared since May 2007 (or whichever article edition added them) up until July 2007.
  • Make alternative wiki- or redlinks of titles that have articles by the same name.
