''Dedication 5'' was met with mixed reviews from [[music criticism|music critic]]s. William E. Ketchum III of HipHopDX gave the mixtape a positive review, saying "To Wayne’s credit, ''Dedication 5'' is the best the series has showcased since its legendary sequel from seven years ago, even if it pales in comparison. Occasionally, the YMCMB head honcho shows that he still has a portion of the skills that earned him his spot among rap’s elite. If he can find recapture the consistency from that same era, he won’t have to apologize to his fans for much longer."<ref>{{cite web|last=Ketchum |first=William E. |url=http://www.hiphopdx.com/index/album-reviews/id.2141/title.lil-wayne-dedication-5-mixtape-review- |title=Lil Wayne - Dedication 5 (Mixtape Review) | Read Hip Hop Reviews, Rap Reviews & Hip Hop Album Reviews |publisher=HipHop DX |date= |accessdate=2013-09-04}}</ref> Brian Josephs of ''[[XXL (magazine)|XXL]]'' gave the mixtape an L, saying "Surprisingly, one of the more intriguing moments of ''Dedication 5'' comes in a skit.
