[edit]'Siamese Dream' is in no way a shoegazing album!!!
Hey, I added "Head Automatica" to this list a month or so ago and much to my chagrin it has been deleted. I find this to be a terrible mistake; Head Automatica is definitely a Shoegaze band. Please revert the list.
I'm pretty sure Head Automatica is just a pop band.
I agree. Smashing Pumpkins are definitely not shoegaze. No harmonies. No wall of noise guitar. No whammy. The drums are not recessed. The songs are not pop construction. They don't stare at their shoes. They are not even close to being shoegaze. I'd say they are grunge. They should be removed from the list.

I think it would be useful if this list were split up into original and revivalist bands. Anybody care to oblige? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.30.106.171 (talk) 17:19, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
- I'd second that. There's a definite distinction between old and new shoegaze, and there is even a WP page for "new shoegaze" - Nu_gaze — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.1.5.147 (talk) 21:17, 25 March 2013 (UTC)
The list is already short enough to be split in two, IMHO. If you're wondering whether if its 'original' or 'revival' you'll just have to check out the date of the albums.
THIS PAGE IS RIDICULOUS
[edit]Why does someone persist in adding the Smashing Pumpkins, who have only a very minor dream-pop influence, and who have the sound and aesthetic of an psychadelic/grunge band? There are no moody riffs, no twin rhythm guitars, Corgan's vocals are painfully loud in the mix...
Furthermore, why are decidedly non-shoegazing post-rock bands stuck in here at whim? There is a clear difference between the two genres, and if you're going to be making the grandiose claim that Explosions in the sky play shoegazing, you're going to need to back it up (and amazon.com & giddy fan sites are not the way to go).
This list needs a desperate clean-up. Toyboxmonster (talk) 17:46, 15 November 2008 (UTC)toyboxmonster
- I could not agree more. This list is absolutely fucking horrible. Dfsghjkgfhdg (talk) 22:45, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
yeah some of these bands are good bands..but they aren't shoegaze bands...wtf?! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.149.62.182 (talk) 14:44, 1 February 2009 (UTC)
They all have a shoegaze influence however small it may be, the majority are not shoegaze. Here's a quick selection for removal of bands I know from skimming the article that are DEFINITELY not shoegaze, although they have some influence at times.
Just a quick list of those who I've listen to a lot, not unheard of names.
Autolux, Bardo Pond, Blonde Redhead, Mew, Tame Impala. (just those i've heard most albums from)
And those so ridiculous its funny, because they are METAL. Deafheaven (black metal-sort of), Deftones (nu metal) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.189.74.185 (talk) 23:50, 16 August 2015 (UTC)
- deftones is alt metal not nu metal Squaliform (talk) 16:18, 25 April 2024 (UTC)
Also, I couldn't find a page for pinkshinyultrablast (band), some should make one so they can be added to the list.80.189.74.185 (talk) 00:02, 17 August 2015 (UTC)
SMASHING PUMPKINS
[edit]STOP MAKING ME TAKE THIS OFF EVERY TIME!! I think it's pretty clear by this point that they are nowhere near the genre!
01- There is too much lead guitar for it to be shoegazing
02- There are too many metal-inspire solos for it to be shoegazing.
03- The guitars are too crisp and defined for it to be shoegaing.
04- The production is too clean and shiny for it to be shoegazing (even on "Siamese Dream")
05- The vocals are too defined and much too forward in the mix for it to be shoegaing.
06- Their music lacks the washes of sound that defines shoegaing.
07- Their music lacks the experimentation with effects and manipulation of noise that is common in shoegazing.
08- Their attention to lyrics and use of fuzz pedals places them closer to GRUNGE, which is the antithesis of shoegazing.
09- Their songs rarely feature the twin rhythm guitars which were characteristic of shoegazing.
10- The structure of their songs is extremely tight and to the point, which clashes with the self-indulgeance that earned shoegazers their notoriety.
11- The are NO Credible sources that classify them as a shoegazing band!
So PLEASE STOP Adding them back on!

SMASHING PUMPKINS?
[edit]Shouldn't the SMASHING PUMPKINS be included in this list?143.81.248.53 (talk) 12:07, 28 November 2009 (UTC)
Major Omissions
[edit]I've added Spacemen 3, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Spiritualized and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. How you can start a list of shoegaze musicians and not even think to include TJAMC is beyond me.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.192.143.9 (talk • contribs)
- None of them are/were shoegazing bands. That would seem to be an obvious reason for leaving them out.--Michig (talk) 15:34, 6 February 2011 (UTC)
And somehow Deftones are allowed?80.189.74.185 (talk) 23:51, 16 August 2015 (UTC)
Where are "LOOP" ? Where are "The Jesus and Mary Chain" ? Where are "Spacemen 3" ? I have added.
