Template:Not a forum
This page is not a forum for general discussion about {{{1}}}. Any such comments may be removed or refactored. Please limit discussion to improvement of this template. You may wish to ask factual questions about {{{1}}} at the Reference desk. |
This template is used on approximately 7,900 pages and changes may be widely noticed. Test changes in the template's /sandbox or /testcases subpages, or in your own user subpage. Consider discussing changes on the talk page before implementing them. |
This template is only for talk pages that have received large amounts of chatter unrelated to the improvement of the subject page or other such off-topic posts. Otherwise {{Talk header}} should suffice. If there are no such off-topic posts, this template may be removed from the talk page.
Pursuant to Wikipedia:Talk page guidelines § Behavior that is unacceptable, talk pages are to be used for improvement of the subject page, and not as a forum or soapbox for discussing the topic.
Talk pages are also subject to Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons, and talk page discussion that defames a living person is prohibited. {{blp}} communicates this policy on talk pages.
Usage
{{not a forum|(title)|(additional comments)|(topic to ask about at help desk)|(type=...)}}
All three parameters are optional, and are not named.
- title
- an alternative title for the subject. If omitted, the page name will be used.
- additional comments
- further pertinent material, such as links to policy pages or more appropriate forums.
- topic to ask about at help desk
- what should be discussed at the help desk, if different from title (sometimes, using the title may be grammatically awkward).
- type
- optionally override automatically-determined
{{pagetype}}
. Useful for using in e.g., editnotices, where type=article would yield the appropriate text ("article") instead of "template"
