Effect of oseltamivir on plaque formation by a wild-type human H3N2 influenza virus and its NA R292K mutant in ST6Gal I-expressing cells. A plaque reduction assay in the presence of oseltamivir (serially diluted as indicated in the figure) with ST6Gal I-expressing cells was performed as described in Materials and Methods. Left panel, wild-type human H3N2 influenza virus. Right panel, NA R292K mutant recovered from a patient treated with oseltamivir. The top left well of each plate contains no inhibitor. Note that a 1,000-fold higher concentration of the compound is used for the R292K mutant than for its wild-type parent.
