ERT Kicks Off Eurovision 2025: National Final Regulations and Key Dates Revealed

ERT has just published the detailed regulations for the organization of the Eurovision 2025 national final, through which the artist and the song that will represent our country in the competition will be selected. The regulations describe the entire process in detail, while the submission of entries has also begun and will continue until on Sunday, November 11th.

The national final will take place in a single competitive night, on a date to be announced soon. The result will be decided equally by the television audience and the jury, with a 50-50 ratio. Up to 12 artists will compete in the final, while three reserve entries will also be selected in case one of the finalists withdraws or is disqualified. Both a Greek and an international jury will participate in the final.

Submission Details

Eligible to submit entries are performers who are Greek citizens, those who reside permanently in the country, or those who have at least one parent of Greek origin. There are no restrictions for songwriters, as they can come from any country.

Submission of entries will last until 10/11. In order to submit their proposals, ERT has created a platform where artists must upload, together with their song, a photo of themselves, a short biography, the details of the creators of their songs, as well as the translation of the lyrics, if they are not in Greek . The songs can be in Greek or English.

The songs must be original, not commercially released, and must not have been submitted to any other country for Eurovision 2025.

Participants agree to abide by the contest rules as posted on the official EBU website. Naturally, the same rules that apply to the Eurovision contest apply here as well (maximum song duration of 3 minutes, up to 6 people on stage, etc.).

Each performer may submit only one song, while each songwriter or songwriting team may submit up to two.

National Final Timeline

  • Until 10/11: Submission of entries
  • Immediately after: A jury appointed by ERT will select up to 12 songs to compete in the national final
  • By the end of 2024: The 12 finalists will be presented to the public in a special broadcast
  • The songs will be presented to public via special tv shows.
  • The national final will take place live, with both the public and the jury (Greek and international) selecting the winner with a 50-50 ratio.

Interested parties can submit their entries, along with all the required supporting materials, to ERT’s platform HERE

Greece: Sakis Rouvas will be the host of the national final

According to a recent report by journalist Alexis Michas on the ANT1 show Weekenders, Sakis Rouvas will be the host of the Greek national final for Eurovision 2025, organized by ERT. This exciting news has thrilled Eurovision fans, as Rouvas has a longstanding connection to the contest, both as an artist and as a presenter.

Sakis Rouvas’ Eurovision Experience

Sakis Rouvas is no stranger to the Eurovision stage. He represented Greece twice, in 2004 with the song “Shake It”, securing 3rd place, and again in 2009 with “This Is Our Night”, where he finished 7th. Additionally, he co-hosted the Eurovision Song Contest in Athens in 2006, following Greece’s victory with “My Number One”. Given his extensive background with the event, Rouvas’ selection as host of the 2025 national final has heightened expectations for an impressive show.

National Final and Open Call for Artists

In parallel, the official decision by ERT’s Board of Directors regarding the national selection process has already been published on the public transparency platform Diavgeia. According to this decision, Greece’s artist and song for Eurovision 2025 will be chosen through an open national final, inviting artists and composers from all over the country to submit their proposals. This transparent and inclusive process is expected to attract a wide range of talented candidates from the Greek music industry.

Official Contest Details Coming Soon

This upcoming reveal has sparked considerable interest and excitement within the Greek music community and among Eurovision fans, who are eagerly awaiting the names of the contestants and the format of the national final.

Looking Ahead to Eurovision 2025

With Sakis Rouvas returning as host, the organization of ERT’s national final for Eurovision 2025 is set to be ambitious and spectacular. Greece’s entry will be decided through a transparent and open process, and the audience is in for one of the most highly anticipated television events of the year, with Rouvas bringing his experience and charisma to the stage.

Greece: 31 more artists prepare for ERT’s National Final

Today, we present the third part of the list of artists who have confirmed their intention to participate in ERT’s national final for Eurovision 2025. This will likely be the last part of the interested artists’ presentation, as the detailed rules of the national final and the submission process for entries are expected to be announced soon.

Once again, our list includes well-known and established artists, as well as many newcomers who are not as familiar to the public.

Giorgos Giannias needs no introduction. He has carved out his own path in the Greek music industry. His distinctive voice has given us many beloved songs. He told us that he would be very interested in Eurovision, especially with a ballad that has something meaningful to say.

One of the most well-known Cretan artists of the younger generation is Giorgos Vogiatzakis. Most of us got to know him through his participation in J2US. With a song heavily influenced by traditional elements, Giorgos Vogiatzakis aims to vie for Greece’s representation in Basel.

Tasos Xiarcho frequently grabs media attention with his statements. He won J2US, and since then, many have hoped to see him participate in Eurovision. Tasos confirmed both to us and through his social media that he will submit his entry to ERT for the national final.

We previously mentioned Markella in a separate article. We could say she is following in Amanda’s footsteps, as both are based in Norway. However, Markella blends Greek elements into her work.

The Horostalites, who reached the final three of the 2018 national selection, which was never held, informed us that they are back in the studio and are open to submitting their entry to ERT once again.

The list is rounded out by artists who started their careers through talent shows and TikTok, alongside those who have long been active in the music scene. In detail:

  • Giorgos Giannias
  • Giorgos Vogiatzakis
  • Markella
  • Manos Takos

Greece: Regulations for the national final to be announced | End of ERT and RIK Dispute

The strategy for Eurovision is changing. ERT is preparing to publish the rules for the process of selecting the artist who will represent Greece in the song contest. This open process involves some risks, which is why it is deemed necessary to publish the regulations to avoid misunderstandings and complaints.

According to Typologies and our own sources, the details of the national final will be announced soon, as previously mentioned by the company’s CEO, Katerina Kaskanioti, during the presentation of ERT’s new program. ERT will release the complete rules of the process, so that all interested parties are aware of the exact method and specific timelines that will be followed to select Greece’s representative for Eurovision 2025.

ERT aims to create television shows that will lead to the selection of the artist who will represent Greece at Eurovision 2025, which will take place in Basel. However, this does not necessarily mean there will be preliminary rounds, as reported in the press in recent days. At the same time, the streaming services Eurovision Channel and Radio Eurovision will be in operation. It is worth noting that the 2024 Eurovision final, featuring Marina Satti, achieved record viewership on ERT1, surpassing even the UEFA Europa Conference League final, where Olympiacos won the trophy.

Last Wednesday, ERT’s program was presented at the Athens Conservatory, with RIK President Stavros Georgiadis as a guest. After the tension that arose between Greece and Cyprus last year—initially due to ERT’s reaction to RIK’s intention to select its representative through STAR’s Fame Story, and later with the revelations from the Cypriot Ambassador in Athens about former ERT President Konstantinos Zoulas’ statement that Greece could not award Cyprus high points because “Liar” had been rejected by ERT’s jury the previous year—the relationship now seems to be returning to the excellent level it had always enjoyed.

Will the traditional exchange of 12 points between Greece and Cyprus happen again? We remind you that the last time the two countries exchanged 12 points was in 2021.

Following the publication of the first list with 26 names, it’s time to reveal the second batch. A total of 30 more artists, including well-known names from the music scene as well as newcomers, have confirmed their intention to compete for the ticket to Eurovision 2024.

One of the most commercially successful artists in Greece in recent years is Trannos. As an authentic representative of the local trap music scene, Trannos, according to his own statements, has submitted his proposal to ERT again this year. This time, he is determined to more actively pursue the opportunity to represent Greece by participating in the national final.

With over 81 million views on YouTube, Konstantinos Koufos can proudly claim that his song “Η Πιο Ωραία Στην Ελλάδα” is one of the most-viewed Greek songs. He is open to submitting an entry for the national final.

The winner of “The Voice 2” and well-known traditional Greek music songwriter Kostas Ageris will also be among the contestants. In 2015, he was the producer for Thomai Apergi in the national final for Eurovision.

Greece: A New Surprise from ERT – Preliminary Rounds Before the National Final?

After nearly 20 years of selecting Greece’s Eurovision entry through internal selection or committee decisions, the process is once again returning to public involvement. The song and artist who will represent Greece at Eurovision 2025 in Basel, Switzerland, will be chosen through a national final, as announced by ERT’s CEO, Katerina Kaskanioti.

The idea to bring back the competitive selection process surfaced two years ago, following Greece’s failure to qualify for the Eurovision final. Interest grew further after Marina Satti’s success in 2024. The final decision was made recently, due to the increasing demand from artists eager to participate.

According to Realnews, ERT is considering not only a national final but also the possibility of preliminary rounds, depending on the number of entries. This would turn the selection process into a multi-stage competition, similar to music talent shows.

Already, 26 artists have confirmed their intention to submit their entries to ERT, with the number steadily rising. On Wednesday, more names are expected to be announced in a follow-up article.

However, according to our information for this first year, it appears that ERT is leaning toward holding a single final night featuring 10-15 finalists.

The details of the national final format will be announced soon, providing clarity for all involved.

EXCLUSIVE: Revealing Greece’s Exciting Contenders for the National Final

The countdown to the Eurovision 2025 contest has already begun, and Greece is preparing to select its representative through a highly anticipated national final. Following a successful run in last year’s contest, ERT returns in 2025 with an open national final for the first time in 22 years, offering both emerging and established artists the chance to compete for a spot on the stage of the contest to be held in Basel on May 13, 15, and 17.

A Landmark National Final for ERT

The process announced a few days ago by ERT’s CEO, Katerina Kaskanoti, has already captured public attention, with numerous talents confirming their intention to participate. Public interest is high, as every year the Eurovision contest becomes more intense, with the level of artists and songs rising sharply.

ERT aims for this national final to not only be a musical celebration but also an opportunity to showcase the evolution of the Greek music scene, bringing together artists from various genres and musical cultures with a common goal: to represent the country with dignity on the biggest musical stage in Europe.

So, let’s take a look at the artists vying for a spot in Eurovision 2025 and what they bring to the table in this year’s musical showdown. Some of them have exclusively confirmed their intentions to us, while others have publicly expressed their interest in recent months.

Who Will Raise the Greek Flag in Basel?

Almost all the hot names that capture the interest of Greek and international eurofans seem set to enter the national final.

You read about ZAF in a previous exclusive article. The young artist has repeatedly expressed his interest in the contest and intends to submit a song that he will write himself. With his recent performance with Coldplay this summer at OAKA and a large fan base, ZAF hopes to be the winner of the national final and represent Greece in Switzerland.

Staying with PANIK Records, another beloved artist who many would like to see represent us at Eurovision is Tania Breazou. Her participation was confirmed just days ago by the CEO of PANIK Records, Giorgos Arsenakos. She is likely to participate with a song penned by Nikos Terzis.

Good Job Nicky has been circling the contest for many years. In 2022, he came very close when he secured second place in ERT’s closed selection with his song “Heaven is a Sin.” In a conversation with us, he mentioned that he might submit an entry for the national final. As he has revealed in previous interviews, he already has the song ready and is optimistic about achieving a good placement.

Klavdia was also very close to representing Greece in 2023. With her song “Holly Water,” she reached the final five but did not win the closed selection of ERT that year, which was marred by controversial decisions by the artistic committee. Klavdia wants to submit a new song and is currently searching for it.

Another frequent contender is Evangelia, who has tried to reach the Eurovision stage through both Greece and Cyprus. Having switched labels and with a song from the creators of “ZARI” by Marina Satti, she hopes that 2025 will be her year to finally realize her dream.

While Biased Beast did not manage to represent Cyprus in Eurovision 2025, as RIK chose Theo Evan, he is not giving up and will try to make it to Basel via ERT.

However, these are not the only well-known artists trying their luck in the upcoming ERT national final. Artists such as Zoe Papadopoulou, Nafsiika, Melina Makri, Shaya, and Kianna are just a few names that have confirmed their intentions to participate.

Artists who had previously applied for ERT’s closed selections in previous years also plan to enter the national final for 2025. Specifically, Lou is and Artemis Matafia from 2022, Konstantina Iosifidou, Antigoni, and Jimmy Sion from 2023 are preparing their proposals.

Notably, artists who gained fame through talent shows will also participate. Aristea Alexandraki from Fame Story 2023, Angelos Arhaniotakis from X Factor 2022, Alexandra Sieti from The Voice 2021, and Dodona from The Voice 2023. Additionally, newer generation artists who have become known through social media, such as Mikay and ARIÁDNE, are also planning to submit entries.

From our previous suggestions, Steve onemanshow and Socrates Charis are also positive about submitting entries for the national final. Both are very talented and capable of making a surprise.

Finally, representation from the Junior Eurovision is anticipated, as two artists who previously represented our country in the children’s contest are now ready to take the big step to the main Eurovision. This includes Alexandros Chountas and Kalli Georgelli (Xannova Xan), who will attempt to become the first artists to compete for Greece’s colors in both the children’s and adult Eurovision.

So the artists who are mentioned in the above article are:

  • ZAF
  • Tania Breazou
  • Good Job Nicky
  • Klavdia
  • Evangelia
  • Biased Beast
  • Zoe Papadopoulou
  • Nafsiika
  • Melina Makri
  • Sayia
  • Kianna
  • Lou is
  • Artemis Matafia
  • Konstantina Iosifidou
  • Antigoni
  • Jimmy Sion
  • Aristea Alexandraki
  • Angelos Arhaniotakis
  • Alexandra Sieti
  • Dodona
  • Mikay
  • ARIÁDNE
  • Steve onemanshow
  • Socratis Haris
  • Alexandros Chountas
  • Kalli Georgelli (Xannova Xan)

Let’s get ready to welcome the voices that will represent us and support their efforts with all our hearts. Eurovision 2025 is just around the corner, and Greece is ready to shine!

Giorgos Arsenakos on Eurovision 2025: PANIK Records Aims to Send Tania Breazou, Denies Eleni Foureira Rumors

On Katerina Kainourgiou’s show Super Katerina, statements were featured from the CEO of PANIK Records, Giorgos Arsenakos, regarding Eurovision 2025 and the involvement of artists from the record label in Greece’s representation.

Initially, Giorgos Arsenakos denied all reports suggesting that Eleni Foureira would represent Greece in Eurovision 2025, either through direct selection or by participating in the national final announced by ERT. The CEO of PANIK Records stated that Foureira had not received any proposal from ERT for Eurovision 2025.

As Arsenakos specifically mentioned, the goal for PANIK is to send Tania Breazou to Eurovision 2025, for whom they are currently searching for a strong song, hoping she will win the national final and represent Greece in Basel.

The situation, as you can imagine, is expected to become very interesting, as all record labels will gradually reveal their plans for the open national final by ERT, which has certainly shaken things up.
