Danielle Danshov has wanted to be a warrior for as long as she can remember. At eighteen, that dream is within her grasp – if she can get through her final year of training, master her Fae magic, and work with the enigmatic new trainer who challenges her as no one else has.
Outside Westhorne, a sinister new threat is growing, and demons and shifters are disappearing without a trace. As the Mohiri search for answers, danger strikes close to home, and the investigation becomes a race to save someone Dani loves before it’s too late.
When Dani’s world begins to crumble around her, she must find strength she never knew she had and harness the power inside her. She’ll need both when she faces her enemy and discovers just how much she has to lose.
NOTE TO NEW READERS: Tempest takes place in the Relentless world twenty years after the events in that series. There are numerous references to people, places, events, and creatures from the original series. If you are new to Relentless, it's recommend you read that series (or the first three books) before you read Tempest.
Karen Lynch is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author.
She grew up in Newfoundland, Canada - a place rich in colorful people and folklore to which she attributes her love of the supernatural and her vivid imagination. She moved to Charlotte, North Carolina years ago and was immediately charmed by the southern people but she says she will always be a newfie.
Though she loves supernatural fiction, she has a soft spot for Charlotte Brontë and Jane Austin. She is a fan of classic rock, country and classical music but her favorite music is the sound of a good thunderstorm or a howling blizzard. Two of her favorite past times are baking artisan breads for her friends and spending quality time with her two German Shepherds.
Man. I'm bummed. This was my most aniticipated read this year so far and I was sure it was going to be the one to end my reading slump, but it really didn't do much for me.
Honestly, this felt weird. Like a rehashed, underdeveloped and less mature version of Sara's story including pages and pages and pages of the protagonist training and learning how to control her fae magic, which I've sat through TWICE already. The pacing of both the plot and the romance felt off, which made it pretty much impossible for me to root for Dani and Ronan, and even the action scenes were resolved far too conveniently in order to leave any impression on me.
The story takes place about 20 years after this series started with Relentless, yet the majority of the many characters from previous books that we get to revisit here haven't changed at all. Meanwhile, Sara and Nicolas, kick-ass warrior team with chemistry galore between them, have been downgraded to being dusty, stay-at-home parents and only being referred to as "Mom" and "Dad" (for obvious reasons). I don't know, maybe I'm being overly harsh seeing that this is their daughter's story and not theirs, but I feel like they were done injustice by how they were portrayed.
It wasn't all bad, of course. I loved Dani and Dimitri's sibling relationship and revisiting all those amazing characters I've grown so fond of over the years. Dani did have her bright moments and even though she seemed more like a more immature version of Sara (even though she's 18/19) than her own personality, I did like her as the heroine. Ronan as the hero, too.
Alas, I can't give this book more than 2 stars. Maybe it's time to call it quits with the Relentless universe.
The relentless series is what gets me fall in love with Karen’s book. I don’t know how many times I’ve read and listen to this series and was so excited to read this spin off. I was a little disappointed from the beginning towards 65% of the book. There’s not really much character build up and I don’t feel the chemistry between the two. They don’t spend enough time to really fall for each other let alone being mates. I feel like Dani is not as strong as everyone seems to keep on praising her which can be annoying when she’s done nothing to earn it. I also feel like there’s a lot of detail is missing. I almost give up but towards 70% the book got really good. She’s finally doing something and there’s finally some connection between the two. This book has so much potential but I feel as if it’s being rush and gloss over so many parts. I wish her twins would be more involved as well. I can’t wait for the next book and hopefully it will be better than this one.
I wanted to love this book! I have been waiting for this book for years, basically from the second I learned that Sara was pregnant. This book had no plot or storyline. It was basically a list of references to Sarah’s journey, some ok but most forced. I think I would have preferred it if it was from sarah’s perspective. Dani had an okay personality but operated in the shadows of her mom’s story. Ronan had no personality, or charisma. He was just… there! No real banter! No romance! No attraction! No adventure! I am so bummed. This could have been epic. Nothing really happened and all I thought the entire time was I rather go back and read the original story. I had to read it and now it is done with.
I've been waiting for this book for years. I believe it was never supposed to be written at first, so I'm so grateful it got published. It contains everything I wished for but sadly I think some parts were too rushed and unoriginal, especially the last few chapters.
I have loved this series from the very beginning, including the spin off books with other characters like Chris and Jordan. However this one just didn’t have the same spark or chemistry as the others. I loved how the author brought back the other characters and it was a joy to read about them again. However one thing I loved about Sara and Nicholas was the time spent on their relationship in the previous books. Yes it took over a few books and it was a slow burn. However it was genuine. Then there were the books that focused on Chris and Jordan’s relationship that also felt real and sweet even though it happened pretty quickly. It was done in a way that you felt the connection between the characters. Yet in the Tempest I just don’t feel it. It felt forced and there weren’t enough special moments between the main characters for me to truly root for them. I did enjoy this book but it was disappointing. Even when Dani goes through her liannan it didn’t feel nearly as bad as Sara’s,despite how the book builds you up for this huge event. Then it was done in a few pages and I was left thinking seriously? That’s it? All in all read it if you have read all the other books in the series, but as a stand alone novel it just wasn’t that great. Even the big main plot event at the end felt rushed and not very cinematic. I still love Karen Lynch as a writer this just wasn’t one of her best.
I LOVE this book. It was so good being back in the Mohiri world. First, I would like to recommend reading the first three books from the Relentless series (Sara’s POV) as you will understand a lot more when reading “Tempest”. The world building Karen has created in “Tempest” is so well done; you feel you are living the story with the characters. It was also so great to see characters from the Relentless series in a different part of their character life. Especially seeing Sara and Nikolas as parents. It was a joy to “read/watch” main character Dani grow into her own woman and see all the relationships she has from past characters as well as new relationships she makes as she goes through her journey in her book. Be prepared to feel so many emotions, crazy adventures with Dani and her family and friends. I highly recommend this book and can’t wait to see what else Karen plans to write in the future.
Tempest by Karen lynch, book 8 in the (Relentless series) I was so excited to get my hands on this book. I absolutely adore this series so much. I do recommend reading the rest of the series, before reading Tempest as you get to know the characters a lot more beforehand, and I think you would enjoy it more with less spoilers.
Tempest took me back into this amazing world, this time it's about Danielle Danshov. Now you probably guessed by the second name who this is, yes it Nikolas and Sara daughter.I so loved seeing what Nikolas and Sara were up to in their lives. Danielle indeed is like Sara when she was younger and we know how much trouble she got herself in haha.
We have a whole lot more trouble at Westhorn, and ahh yes westhorn how I've missed you. Danielle is 18 and in her last year of training to be a warrior, with her twin brother Dimitri, and her other warrior friends. With demons and shifters disappearing, the mohiri are on the search when Dani's best friend goes missing too. With Dani trying to learn her fae training as well. I loved seeing some of our old characters and seeing where they are in their lives and their kids including. We also meet new characters and the hot new trainer Ronan, wow this guy is full of surprises and loved it.
This book was full of action packed fighting, romance, fast plot and phenomenal characters that you, just full even more in love with. As well as at least about 40% of the ending of the book, my heart rate was racing so fast OMG, I was shouting at my kindle. Karen Lynch done a marvellious job with this book and I seriously hoping for more. I would really love a book on Dimitri or any of the other characters really haha. I cannot get enough of this world. I highly recommend reading the whole series.
I really wanted to love this book. Truly I did, but it was so disappointing.
This book is the latest in the Relentless series, and takes place about 20 years after the conclusion of the original trilogy. I love the original books, so much I reread them quite often, and so when I heard this book was coming out I was ecstatic. Unfortunately this book paled in comparison to the depth and heart of the original.
Honestly, it felt like I was reading a highlight real of the full book, because the book would mention something once, then never again, and then would jump into something unrelated in the next chapter. The pacing was all over the place; at times speeding by while simultaneously talking about nothing of consequence.
The romance was lackluster and relied too heavily on the fated mates trope, but there were few and far between scenes of them actually developing a relationship outside of running in the woods.
The conflict of the book felt like it was just hanging out in the ether waiting for a pause in the romance plot to input just a little tidbit here and there. Both Dani and Ronan's personal traumas were mentioned fleetingly, and were resolved too quickly in my opinion. The ending was incredibly predictable, and never felt like it was an unachievable task, more a chance of luck for them.
Even though I loved seeing all of the original characters grown up, each one of their cameos were fleeting and held no real impact on what Dani was going threw. I know that I'm in the vast minority of reviewers when I gave this book anything short of 5 stars, but I can't say that I loved this story as much as Relentless.
I still highly recommend the original trilogy, but I feel like you could skip this book and not really miss anything.
Tempest by Karen Lynch is the eighth book in the Relentless series. Dani, daughter of Sara and Nikolas, is becoming a fine warrior. At eighteen, all she wants to do is train and have a rather carefree life. But then a new trainer comes, who makes her heart beat faster, and demons all over America start to disappear. Dani is about to lose people she loves, so she has to channel everything she's got to save her loved ones.
I would have never imagined to ever come back to the Relentless universe. One can imagine how excited I was, when I heard the news that Karen Lynch is publishing a new Relentless book. The Relentless series is one of my favourite series and Karen Lynch one of my favourite authors. So it is to no surprise that I downloaded to book at midnight, read some, went to sleep, read some more before university started, read in-between classes and finished the book within a day. And I have to say, I loved the book!
Dani is the same danger magnet as her mum, Sara. But she is an amazing warrior just like her parents. She is such a caring young woman. I love the relationship she has with her twin brother Dimitri (and I really hope that Dimitri gets his own book). Ronan took me by surprise. He is not as old as I had thought in the beginning, which was a nice change to the bigger age gaps with the other couples in the series. And he is not who (or what) I thought, which is a plot twist I absolutely love! There is so much we still don't know about the Relentless world, which I would love to read about. I loved that we met nearly all of the characters from the other books. It is nice to read about their families and what had become of them. I also hope that Summer gets her own book. It's so tragic what she had to go through. I loved to be back.
The plot was quite similar to all the other plots of the books in the series. Something evil was going on and the protagonist(s) swept in to save the world. Don't get me wrong, I am not complaining about that! After re-reading the series, I just realized that the plots were quite similar.
I can just thank Karen Lynch for putting out such an amazing book again. I loved every second of it. It felt like coming home. I highly recommend the whole Relentless series. Tempest can be read as a standalone, but it is recommended to at least read the first three books of the series. I can't wait to read more from Karen Lynch!
Story 4.25 Stars. Narration 4.25 stars I couldn’t believe it when I found out the author had published book 8 in this series. It had been over with for so long. And yet here we are. Of course it’s different and the timeline has jumped around 20 years. This time we have Dani as the main character. She’s having problems with her magic and it’s still not even completed within her. She’s also training to be a warrior along with her twin brother. I liked her and her brother’s close relationship. When the new trainer arrives it’s not long before Dani breaks up with her boyfriend. Ronan(the trainer) is a hybrid and has a demon inside, but is also something else.
I liked the main characters, but I also liked all the old characters that I’ve loved from the earlier books. It was fun catching up with all of them.
Reasons I can’t give this more than 4 stars include the training scenes and how many there are. I know that’s unrealistic since that’s what’s her life is, but I think less is more in a book like this. Another reason is the overly long and tedious time spent in the Yukon-not the romance part-and I think Dani needed to go on more missions than be stuck in the Yukon. But that’s just personal preference. That being said, there ended up being a lot of action while in the Yukon.
All in all though, I loved being back in the Relentless world and enjoyed Dani and Ronan as main characters. I’m really hoping this will be a new someone else to get their book. Sommer maybe? I’d be all in for that. Or for Dani’s brother to have a book. Thank you Karen Lynch for revisiting this world and characters. I hope it’s not too much to ask that you continue these books. Well done!
This was a great read and I read it in one day. I only regret that I can't read it again for the first time. Karen pulled in so many characters from the previous books so we got to see where they all were now. I thoroughly enjoyed the book.
It was nice to see other characters now and where life had taken them, all grown up with families and careers and responsibilities. The age difference was definitely an ick factor in this one though. Considering I thought she was fifteen (turned out to be eighteen maybe, but still had two years of high school to go) and he was the PE teacher and it never once said he was young and it pretty much describes him as middle aged. Dude was thirty. And Dani definitely comes across as petulant child at times. That part was weird and I didn’t get behind it. They hang out together a little bit, but it still felt rushed for those big declarations. I kind of wish it was two books so that could have been drawn out and developed longer. The world plot is interesting, with supernatural creatures going missing without apparent connection. It definitely took a backseat to the developing romance until later in the story, where we get all the action and adventure.

This book definitely doesn’t live up to the other books in this series.
Dani, Sara’s daughter, is a trainee at Westhorne. While the description makes it sound like there is a new plot, only the last third of the book is about it. The first half is about Dani and her mate becoming friends, then nothing really happens . The last third is about where the missing demons and shifters have gone, but I didn’t really like how it was shown.
Dani and her mate were fine, until he decides to do something stupid. It was irritating to read about how Dani is struggling with her magic, but everyone keeps telling her that she’s going to be oh so powerful (even though Sara was half fae and Dani is only a quarter fae) and suddenly, after a certain part of the book, she can do anything with her magic.
Lots of the characters from the previous books were mentioned. There were new characters introduced too, but they weren’t developed, at all in some cases. Dani’s friends don’t have personalities and disappear quite quickly. I felt bad for Dimitri because he was constantly being left in the dark.
Nothing is really being done about the missing demons and shifters until the last third. Sure, it says that the warriors are investigating, but you don’t see any of it, so it didn’t feel like anything was being done.
Lastly, there are so many time jumps. There are constantly weeks or even months passing without showing plot or character development.
The first half of this book was fine, if a bit boring, but the last bit was annoying. I’m not sure if I want there to be more books in this series.
I don't have many auto buy authors, but Karen Lynch is one of them. And when I saw she was working on this book, I squealed in delight. You don't understand how I love the relentless series and I reread it at least once a year.
So I'm not really sure what happened here. It just falls kind of flat?
In the relentless series, Karen creates such rich banter between the characters that you can't help falling in love with them as they move through the supernatural world. This was just flat. Especially if Dani is supposed to carry this book. She comes across as a whiny brat and she is not half as likable as Sara was. We also don't really have time to see relationships form between the characters the way we did in the previous books, and favourite characters are just kind of glossed over.
Most importantly, where is the dynamic between Sara and Nikolas? I get they're parents now, but that shouldn't have changed it? And especially with Sara having fought so hard against being protected, but now doing that in return?
The villain was a great move, and that was probably the only thing that saved this book from being incredibly boring. I would read the next book if there was another one, but I hope some improvements are made for the future of the series.
I've always been a big fan of both of her series but this book was not great sadly. It all felt very juvenile (yes the POV is 18 but Relentless never felt that way).
It felt like she had an idea for the second half of the book but that she didn't really know how to get there.
The first 40% of the book is unexciting Mohiri training and her struggling with her magic (which she overcomes incredibly easily). The first few chapters is a huge info dump where we get introduced to about 20 different characters who you don't remember or need to remember. At the 40% mark we get the start of the romance, except they spend 2 weeks going on runs, have 1 date and then the main character is in love. Yes, with the whole 'mates' thing the romance is speedy but this was ridiculous. Also we didn't get any cute moments as the reader, we get told she loves him and that's the end of any romance or tension.
The second half of the book atleast had some plot but still none of it felt mega exciting and it all suddenly just works out fine and another sets of main characters are getting it on in a snowy cabin in the middle of nowhere.
I don't mind romance books being mindless with very little plot if the romance is good but there's not even much romance in this book which is a shame as Karen usually does tension and longing so well.
It's good to be back in Mohiri world! I missed it. I liked this book. The plot was very good and I loved seeing Sara, Nikolas and everyone else again and finally meet the twins. As well as see Alex, Remy and Hugo and Wolf again. What bothered me the most was the age gap. I'm not a fan of teacher/student romance but I can deal with it. But the age difference in this was a little...too much for me. It was weird and I pretended he was 21😆the romance felt rushed a little. I wish the romance and their relationships was developed a little longer, a little more. Ronan was...I don't know how to describe it. I liked him but I feel like we didn't get to know him enough on a deeper level. A few chapters from his POV, expecially near the end would have been great. I didn't get to see more of them together and feel the love and chemistry. Chapter 11, they find out they are mates when they don't really know much about each other and in chapter 14 she already loves him. I was like "where?! How?! When?!" I just felt like it was missing something. And I kinda wanted to see more of Dimitri and Dani's bond. You know, twins moments. The end felt rushed too! I just needed...more. A lot more chapters but shorter. Nothing can really top Relentless and Sara and Nikolas for me but still,I enjoyed this one. I just expected something more
Admittedly, I started the book with some unfairly HUGE expectations. The Relentless series is one of my favorites of all time. Sara is easily one of the best heroines I’ve read, and I love me some Nikolas. Plus, the supporting characters we met throughout the boos were just about perfect. That said, Tempest was good, but had I not read all of the previous books, it would have been even better.
A lot of readers seemed to have trouble with how fast the romance developed. Pretty much every book I read covers the concept of mates, so that really doesn’t bother me. And I actually liked Dani and Ronan enough to root for them.
Without giving away any spoilers, my biggest problem was with how quickly the major conflicts were resolved. (I also had a little issue with some of the questionable decisions Dani and Ronan made during their attempted rescue mission.)
If we could give half stars, Tempest would have been a 4.5 for me. Even though it wasn’t at the same level of greatness as the earlier books, it had everything I’ve come to expect from Karen Lynch: romance, action, danger, comedy (courtesy of Hugo, Wolfe, Alex, and the imps), heartbreak, etc. And I loved finding out “where are they now.”
Dani is a headstrong young woman and warrior. Between she and her brother, vampires wouldn’t stand a chance. They both take after their father’s advanced Mohiri fighting prowess and young Dani shares the magic of her mother’s ancestry. She’s incredible outgoing and charismatic, befriending all she meets.
Before Dani can graduate, she and her family must face a new enemy that threatens those she loves the most. But how do you uncover and defeat an enemy you know nothing about? It’ll take all the training her family and new trainer have to offer to find what’s missing before it’s too late.
Dani has much to overcome in her journey to adulthood and becoming a warrior like her parents. But she holds so much more power than she ever could’ve imagined. Her friends & family, and especially her new trainer, will help her to unlock her full potential so she can be the warrior she was always destined to be.
This book exceeded my hopes for it as usual. I really like how similar yet different Dani was to her mother Sara and loved getting to see all the oldies after coming into their new lives together. It was a nice sprinkle of the old and new.
Karen Lynch did it again! Getting to go back to Westhorne was amazing! This is a spin off from the Relentless series. She brings back most of the characters we know and love from the previous books. Tempest takes place 20 years after the original series.
Tempest follows Sara's daughter Danielle as she navigates being fae and mohiri. Something happen when she was young and she stopped using her magic and her liannan is coming and she needs to be prepared for the increase of her magic or she won't be able to control it. Then while coming to terms with needing to use her magic she finds her mate! Her mate is stubborn, growly, and one of the only mohiri that can be around her when her magic gets out of control.
On top of everything that is going on something is happening to cause missing demons and shifters. Then something happens to Dani's best friend and she goes missing! Trying to solve the mystery behind why people are going missing and for what reason. Dani helps her parents and other mohiri try to solve who is behind the missing people and where they are being kept.
Then Dani gets kidnapped while on a job and she discovers the who and why demons and shifters are being taken. Then with the help of 3 shifters and 4 imps Dani escapes just in time to go through her liannan. Where she gets strong enough to go back to the facility to save those that are still being help in the facility.
Tempest should be read after Hellion book 7 in the Relentless series to be able to follow the timeline of events mentioned in the story. The story is a 5/5 stars for me and I 100% recommend this series and this novel!
AHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! WE ARE BACK IN THE RELENTLESS WORLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am only just slightly excited for this book. I definitely stayed up way to late reading this when it dropped & it was absolutely worth the exhaustion the next day.
This book follows Dani, Sara & Nikolas’ daughter. I would like to take this time to beg and plead for Dimitri to get his own book, PRETTY PLEASE!!!!
Dani wants nothing more than to become a Mohiri warrior like her Father, but she has more than a little bit of her mother in her too, but she has been unable to access her magic since she was a little girl. Now so close to finishing her warrior training, a new trainer comes to Longstone, and Ronan is full of a few surprises.
I loved seeing so many familiar faces in this book & some familiar locations too. This book was just so amazing and I hope we get to stick around a bit longer. * cough * Dimitri book * cough *
I was a little nervous- the relentless series is one of my all time faves that I always go back and reread, hence why I had such high expectations....... and I'm so glad i wasn't disappointed!!!!
Tempest was Dani's story- I love how she had her mum's spirit and knack for finding trouble 😉. I really enjoyed the snippets of nearly all the characters from previous books and found myself wanting more- I'm greedy I want more on what's happening in their lifes plus I think Karen was clever enough to have the door ajar for potential books on them *cough* Dima? *cough* Summer.
Ronan did throw me with his unique situation but I think in the end it was perfect. They were perfect Solmi's and their story fit! It all came together. Halfway through the book you had me loosing my mind, I hurt for Dani- thats how invested I was and that is why Karen is amazing, her writing draws you in and just connects to your emotions.
The plot of the book was great and can't be faulted, I had huge expectations and they were definitely met. I demolished the book in 2 sittings unintentionally.
5 stars all day

Relentless is my favorite universe of all time, so maybe I lack of objectivity but… DAMN IT WAS SO GOOD !
All the references to Sara's journey brought back a lot of memories from the first trilogy. It was nice to have a book from Dani's POV (mostly because we can see how cute Nikolas and Sara are together). Now that I have finished this book, I realize this series is endless, like there could so much more POV from Summer, Dimitri, Grace… I truly think Karen Lynch is not done with us.
Ronan was such a unique male protagonist, but I think we could have had more insights (sometimes I wish Karen's books were two-POVs one). I think this books could have been longer, but anyway as you can see it doesn't change my rate because I'm not objective (if I were, it would be a 4 stars).
I highly recommend you read all the books before, because there's a lot of references not only to Sara and Nikolas, but also to other spin-offs so reading Tempest before all the other would be a huge spoiler for the rest of the series.
Sad to see a favorite world of mine come to a close 💔 (unless…? 👀). Loved seeing old faces and reading about new ones. Enjoyed the little glimpses we get into other characters’ lives (Uncle Nate’s was a little bit of shock to me lol). I feel like it was a little fast-paced, but what can you do when you have to cram everything into one book? The tension between FMC and MMC was sizzling. I legit cried when *redacted* like…my chest physically hurt as if that were my *redacted*. I don’t feel like I got to know any of the newer characters that much though. But it’s understandable. I’m never gonna be satisfied with this series being over so I will delude myself into thinking there’s more. The ending gave more of a HFN (our power couple was def HEA!)—I left with more questions. Will Dima get his own mate? What about Summer? What’s going to happen to the villain/s? Are there more of these evil corporations out there? What about MMC’s pack? Ugh I’m gonna be bothered forever. Still giving it 5 stars because I’m biased 💕
The Relentless series is one of my favourite series of book ever! I regularly re-read them. I was a bit nervous about this new book set in the world of the Mohiri though as I’m never a fan of books about the children of the characters I’ve loved. However seeing as Karen Lynch has never disappointed me with her books so far I knew I had to give it a try and I’m so glad I did.
It was a wonderful read and Dani was a great character. I enjoyed all the cameo appearances from my favourite characters and it was exciting to see how things and life for them has changed since we were last in their world. The story pulled me in right from beginning and had me hooked throughout, as has always been the way with this authors books. There was plenty of emotion, action, world & character building in this standalone and I’m hoping it paves the way for more books with new characters set in this world. Five stars from me for a fantastic story.
Nineteen years since we last visited Westhorne our favorite warriors, faes, and werewolves. Humans and Gulaks continue to be greedy and power hungry and the Mohiri continue to do all they can to protect innocent people. Nicholas and Sarah's twins are warriors-in-training. Danielle must learn to balance her fae and Mohiri self in the midst of it all and Dimitri is a proud brother always ready to support her in whatever she wants to do. New characters are introduced and we get to check in with some of the original ones. Danielle along with her father are not prepared when she meets a warrior who will turn her world upside down. And no one is prepared when Sarah's past collides with her present putting those they love in harms way.
I enjoyed Tempest. It was both familiar and new. I would have liked to explore the twin connection more, but am glad to have the chance to simply visit some of my favorite characters.
