The passing of Baroness Masham of Ilton
The Intensive Care Society is saddened to learn the news of the passing of Baroness Masham of Ilton 1 and our thoughts are with her loved ones during this difficult time.
Lady Masham was a core member of the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Intensive Care 2 established in 2021 in the wake of the pandemic to tackle key issues in intensive care with a focus on rehabilitation and workforce.
Lady Masham championed patient rehabilitation both in hospital and in the community settings and campaigned to raise awareness of the importance of having appropriate staffing levels in the NHS. 3
Her legacy spanning 53 years and as the longest serving female of the House of Lords will live on for years to come.
Intensive Care Society Chief Executive, Dr Sandy Mather, said “We are deeply saddened by the loss of Baroness Masham. She was a core member of the APPG on Intensive Care and worked hard to raise awareness of the issues that matter to our patients and the NHS workforce. A sad loss for all those who have had the privilege to know and work alongside her.”
The Intensive Care Society continues to support the APPG to educate parliamentarians on the key issues surrounding intensive care in order to help Government make informed and lasting change.
