Wikimedia Côte d'Ivoire (WMCI), or #Wikiciv is a non-profit organization being created with the aim of spreading free knowledge. On September 28, 2013, Wikimedia users in Côte d'Ivoire set up a preparatory and transitional committee to plan and coordinate the creation of the chapter. On November 28, 2014, Wikimedia Community User Group Côte d'Ivoire (WCUG-CI) is officially recognized as a user group bringing together Wikimedians living in (or linked to) Côte d'Ivoire.

Mission

Our mission is to support and promote Wikimedia projects hosted by the Wikimedia Foundation Inc. and to support and promote the collection, development and dissemination of knowledge and diverse educational, cultural and historical content, with a focus on activities taking place in Côte d'Ivoire, in the public domain or under a license that allows anyone to freely use, distribute and modify such content without payment of royalties.

To accomplish this mission, WMCI plans to provide the necessary infrastructure and organizational system, in collaboration with the Foundation and volunteer participants.

WMCI will also contribute to keeping the information from Wikimedia projects, available on the internet, free of rights.

Roles

  • Promote Wikimedia projects and free content in general, and encourage the use of Wikimedia resources in the educational field (primary, secondary, and university levels).
  • Recruit contributors, both specialized and non-specialized, to participate in Wikimedia projects. This may require some training in using the Mediawiki software.
  • Organize conventions, conferences, meetings, workshops, etc.
  • A local chapter would facilitate research. It could work on gathering information on a variety of topics that are currently not covered.

Tasks

  1. Mobilize members
  2. Develop the objectives and structure
  3. Draft the chapter's basic documents (Bylaws - Rules of procedure)
  4. Apply for approval
  5. Hold the Chapter's constituent General Meeting
  6. Register the association with public authorities
  7. Mobilize financial resources to expand the chapter's activities
