How many more messages

[править код]

Could you please tell me how many more messages do you plan to leave on talk pages? — AlexSm 20:32, 5 апреля 2012 (UTC)[ответить]

Hi, Alex, I plan to reach out to hundreds of people. In the past I have scoured talk pages leaving messages, and this has allowed me to discover many people whom I would have otherwise not have had the chance to meet! If this is a problem please let me know!
Vgrigas 20:43, 5 апреля 2012 (UTC)[ответить]
I think it would be much better to make one post somewhere on village pump, e.g. here: ВП:Форум/Общий. Please do not post google translation (better ask someone to translate to Russian). — AlexSm 20:49, 5 апреля 2012 (UTC)[ответить]
OK! Thank you, I'll do that! Vgrigas 00:58, 6 апреля 2012 (UTC)[ответить]
Sorry, why do you continue to spam users' talk pages with the same google translation? — Ace 20:56, 10 апреля 2012 (UTC)[ответить]
I am waiting for a translation of the village pump message at the moment (see below). The message is long, and I thought that I could continue to message individual Wikipedians in this way while i was waiting for translation. Is this distasteful? I have done this before in the past on Spanish, Portugese and English Wikipedia, and users found no problems with it, but so far you are the second user on Russian-language Wikipedia to question it. It makes me think that perhaps it is much more distasteful here do do things in this way! If this is the case, can you help me to get this translated so that it can apper in a village pump notice? Let me know!

Every year, the Wikimedia Foundation raises its budget in a 6-week fundraising campaign. Most Wikimedia readers don't even know that our projects are created by volunteers and funded entirely by voluntary donations. The annual campaign is a chance to teach the world who actually writes Wikipedia and how special Wikimedia projects really are while encouraging people to donate and edit. Last year during the 2011 fundraiser, we relied on the stories of Wikimedians from several countries including Brazil, Argentina, Saudi Arabia, Kenya, India, United States and England. It was a campaign that stayed true to the spirit of Wikipedia, educating the public that this free top-5 website is created by volunteers like you. This year we’d like to feature even more editors from even more countries. We really wish we could have featured Wikimedians from Russia in the last campaign. That’s why we’re reaching out early this year to invite you to share your story and ask Wikipedia readers to donate and edit. We want to hear your story! Send an email with a short bio like the examples below along with a photo? to wikistory@wikimedia.org. It's really helpful if you include a few details about your life and why Wikipedia is personally valuable to you. Here are some sample questions to get you thinking (you can answer them or not – we won't share anything publicly without your consent): Where did you grow up? Where do you live now? What do you do for a living? Does it overlap with what subjects you edit? What in your life story led you to start contributing to a Wikimedia project, and why do you continue doing it? What would you be doing with your time if Wikipedia didn't exist? Whats the most amazing story you have about yourself and Wikipedia? Has working on Wikipedia taught you anything special (about people, about collaboration, about the world)? Why does Wikipedia matter? Why should people care about it? Here are a few examples of successful stories from the 2011 Fundraiser

Dr. Sengai Podhuvan Dr. Sengai Podhuvan is from Chennai, India. When we interviewed him last year about his experience, he said, "I was born a poor farmer in rural India in 1936. Today I rely on and edit Wikipedia. When you get to my age, you want to share your knowledge and experience with the world. Over the course of my life, I was a teacher, earned a PhD, was an editor of a government publication for 14 years, became a father of five daughters and one son and still consider myself a country farmer with a single plough." Dr. Sengai's appeal

Wikipedia Editor User:GorillaWarfare is a university student. She began editing Wikipedia when she was in high school and currently she mostly focuses on anti-vandalism editing on Wikipedia. In her appeal, she said, "I'm a university student. Textbooks for one semester cost me $500. On Wikipedia, I get thousands of books' worth of information for free. That’s why I don’t just read Wikipedia, I help create it. It’s really important to me to keep this resource available to everyone, free of charge." GorillaWarfare's appeal

Alan Sohn [1]] Alan Sohn grew up in Lawrence, NY, lived for a decade in Manhattan, and then moved with his wife and children to Teaneck, New Jersey. It was the article for Teaneck that was Alan's first experience with Wikipedia, launching thousands of new articles and over 300,000 Wikipedia edits. For the 2011 fundraiser, Alan wrote, “On Wikipedia, I’ve created 2,463 articles. All of them for free. I’m a systems consultant, working with very large-scale financial computer systems. If the time I’ve spent on Wikipedia were converted to money, it would add up to hundreds of thousands of dollars for me.”But money is not the incentive here. You deal in a different currency on Wikipedia. The information is gladly provided by me and thousands of other editors who are happy to create it. We all know the world is better off because that information is freely available.” Aside from his passion of editing Wikipedia articles, Alan has a penchant for puzzles, both in his work as a financial systems analyst, and crossword puzzles, namely the famous NYT crossword puzzle. Alan plays in a softball league with one of his sons, has coached his kids in various sports, and spent 3 years as a bicycle commuter riding 16 miles daily from NJ to NYC. Alan's appeal

Editor Karthik Nadar Karthik Nadar is from Mumbai, India. He is a student and he works part-time. He contributed a lot to the 2011 Mumbai bombings article, including adding a picture he took after a bomb blast. In his fundraising appeal, he wrote, "On the day a terrorist attack ripped through the heart of my city, Wikipedia changed my life. The 2011 bombings in Mumbai made international headlines, but at the moment the crisis struck, there was no straightforward information about what had happened. I knew I couldn’t be the only one looking for answers. So I went out to take photos, uploaded a map I pasted together, and made sure the Wikipedia article on the incident would help people make sense of the chaos." In his free time, other than editing Wikipedia, he enjoys playing the drums and playing cricket. Karthik is also passionate about photography. Karthik's appeal

Brandon Harris [2] Brandon Harris is a Senior Designer at the Wikimedia Foundation and he has worked at Wikimedia since the spring of 2010. His appeal passionately highlighted his experience working at the Foundation, "I feel like I’m living the first line of my obituary. I don’t think there will be anything else that I do in my life as important as what I do now for Wikipedia. We’re not just building an encyclopedia, we’re working to make people free. When we have access to free knowledge, we are better people. We understand the world is bigger than us, and we become infected with tolerance and understanding. I work at the Wikimedia Foundation because everything in my soul tells me it’s the right thing to do. I’ve worked at huge tech companies, doing some job to build some crappy thing that’s designed to steal money from some kid who doesn’t know it. I would come home from work crushed." Brandon was raised in Huntington, West Virginia, and he has spent most of his adult life in San Francisco, CA. He is aggressively passionate about his work and loves feeling like he is making the world a better place. He listens to heavy metal, plays guitar, and hosts an ongoing RPG night. Brandon's appeal Please tell us your story and help spread knowledge about the movement! Send an email to wikistory@wikimedia.org
