Sea of Thieves is an action-adventure video game. It was published by Xbox Game Studios and was developed by Rare. The game was first released on 20 March 2018 for Windows and Xbox One.[1] It was also later released on 30 April 2024 for the PlayStation 5.[2]

In the game, players play as pirates and travel the open seas. The player can choose what they want to do in the game and create their own adventure, such as search for treasure and battle other players and NPCs.[3]

Reception

When the game first came out, it recieved mixed reviews from game critics. Critics said that they liked the graphics, physics, and multiplayer aspects of the game but because of the lack of content, it shouldn't have been a full price release.[4][5][6] The game would receive more positive reviews after updates and patches for the game over the years.[7]

The game has also won many awards. Among the awards won, it has won both Best Xbox One Game and Best Multiplayer Game at 2016 Gamescom and Evolving Game at the 17th British Academy Games Awards.[8][9] It was also nominated for Best Multiplayer Game at The Game Awards in 2018 but lost to Fortnite.[10]
