The Pentaverate is an upcoming comedy limited series created by Mike Myers for Netflix. It is a spin-off of Myers' 1993 romantic black comedy film, So I Married an Axe Murderer. The series will premiere on May 5, 2022 and consist of six episodes.[1]

Premise

Since the Black Plague in 1347, five men have been working to influence world events for the greater good. One unlikely Canadian journalist finds himself in the middle of a mission to expose the truth and, in the process, save the world.[2][3]

    • Ken Scarborough, A Canadian news journalist who sets out to expose the Pentaverate and win his job back.
    • Anthony Lansdowne, A New England conspiracy theorist who is determined to expose the Pentaverate.
    • Rex Smith, A far-right radio host, and highly prominent conspiracy theorist.
    • Lord Lordington, The Pentaverate’s oldest and highest-ranking member.
    • Shane Salanitri, a former media mogul.
    • Mishu Ivanov, an Ex-Russian oligarch.
    • Shep Gordon, a former rock ‘n’ roll manager.
    • Jason Eccleston: A tech genius who invented the Pentaverate’s supercomputer, MENTOR.
  • Ken Jeong as Skip Cho: A casino mogul with extensive knowledge in the chaos theory of weather patterns.[3]
  • Keegan-Michael Key as Dr. Hobart Clark: A nuclear physicist who was recruited into the Pentaverate to resolve the climate change disaster.[3]
  • Debi Mazar as Patty Davis, the highly trusted Executive Assistant to the Pentaverate.[3]
  • Richard McCabe as Exalted Pikeman Higgins: The head of the Liechtenstein Guard, the Pentaverate’s security force.[3]
  • Jennifer Saunders as:
    • The Maester of Dubrovnik: The head investigator for the Pentaverate, who is summoned from his ancestral home in Dubrovnik to investigate the suspicious deaths.
    • The Saester of Dubrovnik: The Maester’s sister and protector of the parce clavem, the spare key for the Pentaverate’s voting apparatus, which is hidden in Dubrovnik.[3]
  • Lydia West as Reilly Clayton: a young woman who serves as an accomplice to Ken Scarborough.[3]

Myers also executive produces along with John Lyons and Jason Weinberg.[6][7] In June 2021, the series' title was announced as The Pentaverate, based on the conspiracy theories from the 1993 film, So I Married an Axe Murderer, which starred Myers in dual roles as poet Charlie McKenzie and his Scottish born father, Stuart McKenzie, the latter of whom learns about it from Weekly World News in the film. Tim Kirkby joined as director and executive producer, with Tony Hernandez and Lilly Burns also joining as executive producers.[3][2] In January 2020, British writers Ed Dyson and Roger Drew came on board as co-writers and executive producers. In early March 2022, Myers opened up an Instagram account posting images relating to the namesake of the series, five days prior to the trailer debut.[9]

Casting

On June 8, 2021, Ken Jeong, Keegan-Michael Key, Debi Mazar, Richard McCabe, Jennifer Saunders, and Lydia West were cast.[3][10] Mazar previously co-starred with Myers in So I Married an Axe Murderer as Tony Giardino's girlfriend, Susan. On March 16, 2022, Jeremy Irons was announced as the series narrator.[11]

Filming

Filming began in late May 2021 under the working title Can't Wait.[12][13] The series wrapped filming in late July 2021.[12]
