Canadian rapper Drake and singer PartyNextDoor are expected to release a collaborative studio album in 2024, through OVO Sound and Republic Records. It will serve as a follow-up to Drake's eighth studio album, For All the Dogs (2023), and PartyNextDoor's fourth studio album, PartyNextDoor 4 (2024).
Background and promotion
The album will follow the duo's several collaborations since PartyNextDoor signed to Drake's OVO Sound record label in 2013.[1] Alongside official collaborations, Party would act as a writer and producer on several Drake songs.[2] Following the release of Party's fourth studio album, PartyNextDoor 4, the singer embarked on a twenty-four-stop Canada and United States tour.[3] On August 2, 2024, at the tour's stop at the Budweiser Stage in Toronto—Drake and Party's hometown—Drake appeared as a surprise guest and performed a set, solely consisting of his R&B records.[4]
Following Drake's surprise performance, he announced a collaborative studio album between himself and Party, stating that it would release after the end of summer, "On behalf of me and Party, we've been working on something for y'all. So, you get the summer over with, you do what you need to do. I know all you girls are outside. When it gets a little chilly, PartyNextDoor and Drake album will be waiting right there for you".[5][6][7] Two days later, on August 4, the OVO Sound Instagram page posted backstage pictures of Drake and Party following the concert, captioning the post, "Hometown love".[8][9] On August 5, an interviewer asked Party which his favourite collaboration with Drake is, which Party responded with, "the one we doing right now. All 15 of them", hinting at the album's tracklist to span 15 songs.[10][11]
On August 6, Drake released 100 gigabytes of data including behind-the-scenes clips, tour rehearsals, and studio footage, including three unheard tracks under an Instagram page by the name of "plottttwistttttt".[12][13] On August 7, video clips surfaced of clubs in Canada previewing unreleased music from the album.[14] On the same day, via the "plottttwistttttt" Instagram account, Drake reposted a tweet, blurring out the words "album rollout" regarding one of the unheard tracks.[15][16] On October 5, Drake attended Tyrone Edwards' Nostalgia Party in Toronto, during which he called out his "fake friends" in the music industry while citing PartyNextDoor as a real friend and revealing that the album would drop soon: "shoutout to my brother PX, album dropping soon".[17][18]
