Henryk Muszyński

Henryk Muszyński (born March 20, 1933) is the Archbishop of Gniezno, Poland, having been appointed by Pope John Paul II when the Polish hierarchy was reorganized in March 1992. He had previously been Bishop of Włocławek since 1987.

Traditionally, the Archbishop of Gniezno is Primate of Poland, but when the reorganization severed the See from that of Warsaw an exception was made for the lifetime of the present Archbishop of Warsaw, who had previously been Archbishop of both cities. On 1 November 2006 Pope Benedict XVI send a letter to Józef Glemp, which says that he (Glemp) will be the Primate of Poland until the day of his 80 birthday - that is 18 December 2009.

According to records saved in Instytut Pamięci Narodowej, since 1985 to 1989 Henryk Muszyński was registered as secret collaborator of communist Służba Bezpieczeństwa. [1]
