Tha Carter IV is the upcoming ninth studio album by American rapper Lil Wayne. The album was originally intended to be released on May 16, 2011; however, it has since been pushed back to June 14th, 2011.[citation needed]

Background

In an interview on MTV's Mixtape Monday, Wayne asserted the possibility of the album.[1] Following Tha Carter III's achievement of selling over 3 million copies, becoming 2008's third best-selling album.[2] Wayne re-signed with Cash Money Records for a multi-album deal.[3] Wayne said Tha Carter IV will be released in 2011 just before the holidays.[4] Birdman had previously stated that Tha Carter IV would be packaged with Rebirth as a double disc album.[5] However, Wayne denied this idea saying that "Tha Carter IV deserves Tha Carter IV". He went on to say that We Are Young Money may be packaged with Rebirth.[6] However, it was later confirmed that Rebirth and We Are Young Money will be released separately[7] and Tha Carter IV was scheduled for a May 16th release, but there are rumors of it being released in June which hasn't been confirmed yet.[8] The album cover of Tha Carter IV was released on April 19th, 2011.[9][10]

Guests

Kanye West, Rick Ross, T-Pain and Cory Gunz have been confirmed as features on the album.[11]

Singles

The album's lead single "6 Foot 7 Foot", was released on December 16, 2010 and was produced by "A Milli" producer Bangladesh. The song samples from "Day-O (The Banana Boat Song)" by Harry Belafonte. The song features Cory Gunz and peaked at #9 on the Billboard Hot 100.

On March 23, 2011, "John", which features Rick Ross, was released, and is produced by Polow Da Don. The song samples Rick Ross' "I'm Not A Star" hook, the first track off Teflon Don.[12] The song peaked at #22 on the Billboard Hot 100.
