Vivek Venugopal, also known by his music project Visita, is an Indian composer, guitarist, and producer.[1][2]

Biography

Venugopal started his music career in 2014 as a self-taught guitarist under the project named Visita.[3][4] Later, he became interested in Jazz and international ethnic music.[5]

In 2015, Venugopal released his debut album Musings.[6][7][8] It consisted of compositions for solo acoustic guitar that he performed.[9] He followed this up with Syncretism, Vol. 1 in 2016, which was inspired by West African, Celtic, and Hindustani music.[10][11] This album also featured additional instrumentation by producer Aditya TB.[12]

In 2018, he released his second solo guitar album, The Ascent of Mt. Purpose.[13][14][15]

In 2019, he worked with pianists Mitali Saraf and Shantanu Patel on a set of solo piano pieces, titled Chroniles: Consolation.[16][17] A year later, he released the second part of this concept album series, titled Chronicles: Resolution, and these pieces featured additional instrumentation from Arsen Petrosyan, Magdalena Sas, Zdenek Kansky, Johnny Woodham, Biju Karthik, and Aditya TB, apart from Mitali Saraf and Shantanu Patel.[18][19]

In 2020, he worked with singer and conductor Salome, cellist Tatiana Kritskaya, pianist Jay Parte, singer Anusha Ramasubramoney, to release An Ode to the Morphing Muse, Op. 6.[20]

In March 2021, Venugopal's album, Reveries, Op. 7, was released.[21][22] The work was completed with the help of Shantanu Patel as pianist, Tomasz Pajak as violinist, and Tatiana Kritskaya as cellist.[23][24]

In 2022, he released Moods for Violin & Piano, Op. 15, in collaboration with Pianist Nadine Jo Crasto, and Violinist Nourhe Khate.[25][26]

In February 2023, Venugopal released another album, String Quartets, Opp. 10, 12, that was recorded in Russia with violinists, Anastasia Kuskasheva and Anna Ansolis; the viola artist, Alexandra Marutaeva; and the cellist, Maria Ryzhkova.[27] The album includes two pieces, titled "A Prayer for Mother Nature, Op. 10" and "Conflicted Resolution, Op. 12."[28]

Venugopal is also known for introducing a musical instrument called Visitar along with Erisa Neogy.[29]
