Kinky Boots is a musical set in Northern England.[1] The musical is about a struggling nth generation shoemaker and his drag queen business partner.[2][3][4]

The music and lyrics are by Cyndi Lauper, and the book is by Harvey Fierstein. The choreographer is Jerry Mitchell.[1] Daryl Roth and Hal Luftig are producing the musical,[5] something they have been attempting to since 2008.[6] The musical is based upon the 2005 film of the same name,[5] that earned a 2007 Golden Globe Award for Best Actor – Motion Picture Musical or Comedy nomination for Chiwetel Ejiofor at the 64th Golden Globe Awards.[7] Mitchell is a Tony-winning choreographer. Fierstein is a Tony-winning actor and writer. Lauper is a Grammy-winning musician.[2] Roth and Luftig are Tony-winning producers.[5]

The musical began its pre-Broadway run at the Bank of America Theatre in Chicago on October 2,[2] and will begin on Broadway at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre in April. As expected,[8] the cast includes Billy Porter, Stark Sands and Annaleigh Ashford.[2]
