The brand was founded by Susanne Langmuir in 2011 and launched in 2012[1][2]. In 2014, it was acquired by Kendo[2]. The brand is carried exclusively at Sephora[3].

All BITE's products are made with food-grade ingredients, and are infused with resveratrol[4]. The factory is located in Toronto; in 2015, around 2000 pieces a day were produced[5].

BITE also operates "Lip labs", brick-and-mortar stores where customers can create their own lipsticks. As of August 2017, BITE operates three lip labs: one New York (the flagship store), one in Toronto, and one in San Francisco [1][6].
