Rockfest
Rockfest was an outdoor, hard rock music festival held annually by Kansas City radio station KQRC-FM 98.9 the Rock since 1992 [1][unreliable source?]. Over the years the festival has been held at various venues around the city, including Liberty Memorial Park, Kansas Speedway, and Sandstone Amphitheater. As of 2010, it was considered to be North America's largest one-day music festival.[1] Major bands such as Godsmack, Staind, Seether, Stone Temple Pilots, Korn, Alice in Chains, Rob Zombie, and Disturbed have all headlined Rockfest.[2][unreliable source?] The large size and rain or shine ethos of the concert has led to community disputes regarding its continuation.[2]
In 2017, it was announced 2017's Rockfest would be held at The Kansas City Speedway instead of Liberty Memorial. This is because for the last couple years it has rained or been too cold at rockfest to enjoy without wearing a sweater. The original idea was to move the festival a week or two out. That way we could guarantee better weather. However, they couldn't book Rockfest at the Liberty Memorial that weekend so decided to move the event to the Kansas Speedway.
In 2019, it was announced that Rockfest would be postponed until 2020. No official announcement was made regarding the postponement aside from a brief spot on the radio station and on Facebook, confusing many and giving rise to rumors. The primary reason cited by organizers is that the costs the bands charge to perform is too high, which is an issue that has been seen with other music festivals.
A statement was made February 13, 2020 announcing there would not be a Rockfest that year.
