ATM Azharul Islam is a Bangladeshi politician. He was the Acting Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami until his arrest on charges of involvement in crimes against humanity during the Liberation War . [1]He was arrested on August 22, 2012 on charges of involvement in crimes against humanity in the 1971 Liberation War and the cases against him are currently under trial.  He was born in Lohanipara village of Badarganj upazila of Rangpur district .[1][2][3][4]

Political life

Azharul Islam participated in the elections from Rangpur -2 (Taraganj and Badarganj) constituencies in 1996, 2001, 2008 .[5][6][7]

Allegations of crimes against humanity

  • On August 22, 2012, he was arrested from his home in Moghbazar.
  • The 3-member International Criminal Tribunal-1 ordered the submission of the final investigation report on the charges against him on June 30, 2013. [8][9][10][11][12]
