An Internal Developer Platform (IDP), commonly referred to as an internal developer portal or simply a platform, is a self-service system that enables software developers to oversee the entire application lifecycle, from development to deployment. By simplifying infrastructure complexities, IDPs allow developers to concentrate on coding and delivering features with minimal dependence on operations teams. [1][2][3]

IDPs offer a range of integrated tools and services that boost productivity. The field associated with the creation and management of IDPs is known as platform engineering, which focuses on enhancing efficiency and consistency in the software development process.
