Glenn Rhee

[edit]

The AMC website gives Glenn's last name as Rhee. Is this enough for a rename? --DocNox (talk) 09:12, 11 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • TWD Wikia had a pretty lengthy (and frankly, largely pointless debate) on this recently. -ALL- AMC promo material now lists Steven Yun as 'Glenn Rhee'; name change seems obvious at this point. - 2.121.53.187 (talk) 18:16, 14 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Characters death (tv series)

[edit]

Can a decision be made on whether or not to declare him actually dead (on the 10/25 episode) without any concrete confirmation other than really good cinematography? FriarTuck1981 (talk) 02:13, 26 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

FriarTuck1981, what do you mean by "declare him actually dead (on the 10/25 episode)"? Per this discussion, we shouldn't be declaring any fictional characters as dead, unless it's the case that we are, for example, reporting on the death in a plot summary. The fact that Glenn died in the comics, but was alive for sometime after that in the television show is an example of why it's problematic declaring fictional characters as dead. But I take it that you are wondering if we should have the season 6 plot summary state that Glenn dies? My opinion is "no," since it's still up in the air as to whether he is dead or not. Flyer22 Reborn (talk) 03:12, 26 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
So, yeah, you were correct to make this revert. Flyer22 Reborn (talk) 03:14, 26 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Is Glenn Asian in the comics?

[edit]

As is clear from this section on my talk page, an editor has expressed that Glenn is white in the comics; I noted, "With regard to this and your statement above, it seems that you are basing his race/ethnicity on drawings. I mentioned the artwork in that dummy edit because I've never seen or heard anyone state that Glenn Rhee is white, and figured that you must be basing the matter on your interpretation of the artwork. From what I've gathered from the artwork and interviews such as this one with Steven Yeun, Glenn has always been Asian. There is no indication (that I see) on the Internet that the writers changed his race/ethnicity for the show." And I added, "If [his race/ethnicity] was changed, then why isn't there commentary on it in WP:Reliable sources, like there is for Iris West from The Flash television series being black as opposed to being white for most of her comic book incarnations? Why wouldn't the aforementioned Vanity Fair article, which comments on Yeun's/Glenn's physical appearance, including his race/ethnicity, have mentioned it?"

Commentary from other editors on this matter? Flyer22 Reborn (talk) 15:02, 30 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I'll alert Talk:The Walking Dead (comic book) and Talk:The Walking Dead (TV series) to this discussion. Flyer22 Reborn (talk) 15:07, 30 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Nothing is "clear," Flyer. As I said, unless you have a source stating Glenn is Asian in the comics, we're all discussing maybes and theories. The article does not state Glenn is white, nor has it ever. This isn't worth discussing. His comic book race just can't be mentioned until it's confirmed. Wikipedia is not a message board for maybes and theories. No reliable source confirming his comic book race? No comic book race can be mentioned. I'm surprised I have to tell you that, I thought everything needing a source was something you would know by now. Weird. Cebr1979 (talk) 18:34, 30 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure what you mean by "No comic book race can be mentioned." since I clearly pointed to the Iris example above, and since that (your) statement contrasts various other cases, including where the character's race/ethnicity is mentioned in their respective Wikipedia articles. I maintain that there is no valid reason at all to believe that Glenn is white in the comics, unless one is going on a broader definition of a white person. If his race/ethnicity were changed, it would have been mentioned in WP:Reliable sources, plain and simple. And like I stated on my talk page, "The point of asking at Talk:The Walking Dead (TV series) and/or at Talk:The Walking Dead (comic book) is because people think of Glenn as Asian in the comics, and there will be more edits like the one you removed. It is fine to ask about these things at related article talk pages. I am interested in having editors who are very familiar with the comics weighing in on this." I obviously didn't start this section to hear from you.
As should be more than clear to you by the polite way I responded to you on my talk page about this, in the face of your hostility, I am done playing your hostility game. You will get no such rise from me again; my new username and current posts on my talk page about the name change are clear about my new approach. So, yes, take advantage of it with your jabs and other such unnecessary unpleasant commentary; it will only make me look better. Flyer22 Reborn (talk) 07:13, 31 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Who cares if he's white? Or black or blue or rainbow. Unless you have something saying he's Asian in the comics... The wikipedia article for him can't say he's Asian in the comics. If that makes you "look better..." Fine by me!Cebr1979 (talk) 21:30, 31 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It was made pretty obvious that the original creator Kirkman made Glenn Asian in the comics. See this. Cara777 (talk) 09:17, 16 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Lol - that's not a confirmation.Cebr1979 (talk) 21:39, 16 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Really? So Kirkman would put all these Black and White characters in the series, and then include 1 Asian/Korean who's not actually Asian? So explain why Negan initially skips Glenn because he didn't want to be considered a "racist". He also skipped over some black characters for the same reason. Here is your confirmation. Cara777 (talk) 05:58, 18 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The fact that you have to ask questions and read into things (and are only posting YouTube links instead of, y'know, valid sources)... these are not confirmations. Cebr1979 (talk) 06:18, 18 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Um, that was a link to the actual comics, and that is a fact / confirmation that you fail to see. So, why can't you explain it? Why did Negan say to Glenn: "Not you... I'm a lot of things but I'd never want to be called a racist. No fucking way. You're off limits." Why would he say that? And like his last name also wasn't any indication. Cara777 (talk) 06:49, 18 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Glenn's last name? What issue of the comics did that appear in? And, can you explain to me since when do youtube links posted by fans count as sources? I'd love to know how Negan saying "I don't wanna be racist" translates to "Beyond a shadow of a doubt Glenn is Korean."Cebr1979 (talk) 07:13, 18 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
No one says Glenn's last name on the TV show either, but it has been confirmed by the creators to be his last name. And it's not the Youtube links that matters, it's the Official Issue 100 of the comics that's the confirmation. But if you insist, here's the actual screenshot of the page from Issue 100. So Negan saying "I don't wanna be racist" means Glenn is caucasian, and not Asian? Cara777 (talk) 07:28, 18 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It means maybe Glenn is an alien from Mars and Negan thinks killing the only alien from Mars would be racist. Unless you have a reliable, third-party source that says "Glenn is Asian in the comics," you're wasting all our time.Cebr1979 (talk) 08:23, 18 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Well, that's a nice joke. I knew you were just playing around this whole time. Cara777 (talk) 08:29, 18 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
If teaching you what it's like to be an editor rather than a fan is playing around, then sure. Glad I was able to help.Cebr1979 (talk) 08:36, 18 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
You're the one in the minority here, especially if you think that Glenn must be either white, or an alien. Cara777 (talk) 08:40, 18 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
There's no minority, Cara. Please update yourself on how wikipedia works. There are two editors adding in their own original research by asking open-ended, ridiculous (and impossible to answer) questions. I don't care if Glenn's white. Or an alien. Or black or blue or rainbow. Or a girl. Or anything else. I only care about people saying he's something that there has never been any confirmation of. The article does not say Glenn is white in the comics. It does not say he's an alien in the comics. It does not say he's black or blue or rainbow in the comics. We have gotten confirmation that he is not a girl. We have not gotten confirmation he's Asian. Or white. Or black or blue or rainbow. Or an alien. So the article can't say that he is any of those things in the comics. Plain and simple. I don't understand why that doesn't make sense to you but, at the same time, it doesn't really need to. The fact is, without a reliable, third party source saying he's white or Asian or an alien or black or blue or rainbow... The article cannot state that he is one of those things.Cebr1979 (talk) 08:51, 18 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, there is actually. I have already provided plenty of evidence to you that Glenn is Asian. And so has Flyer22 Reborn. You just refuse to see or accept it. I don't care what is currently in the article or what you believe. I'm just pointing out the simple fact that Glenn is obviously Asian along with evidence from the actual comics and the creators, while you have provided none. It's as simple as that. Cara777 (talk) 09:07, 18 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
You haven't provided anything. Neither has Flyer. You've both just said, "I'm right. He's Asian in the comics. And the fact that nobody has ever confirmed that means nothing because I have open-ended questions that prove my point" which proves nothing. Again (and for the last time because I've grown tired of you): Unless you have a third party, reliable source specifically stating "Glenn is Asian in the comics," you can't go around saying he is. Wikipedia 101. Happy to have schooled you on the subject. Tootaloo! Even if you reply, I won't read it.Cebr1979 (talk) 09:14, 18 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Really? All of the evidence above (including Negan saying Glenn is Asian), and you're still either willfully blind to it, or simply refuse the see/accept it? We are obviously not going to get anywhere with you, so I guess we are done here then. Cara777 (talk) 09:22, 18 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected edit request addition to Season 7 on 24 October 2016

[edit]

After showing Rosita the blood-covered Lucille multiple times, taunting her about the death of her "lover", Daryl gets up in an abrupt fashion and punches Negan with a right hook in the jaw. After doing so, Negan reminds the group that Daryl's action is not acceptable and ,with no hesitation, swings Lucille and an unsuspecting Glenn Rhee. After hitting Glenn, Negan jokes about hitting him so hard his eye popped out of its socket. Looking on in horror, Maggie sees her husband and soon-to-be father of her child die at the hands of Negan. Gav240 (talk) 16:44, 24 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
