Done Stitching Hogarth scans together
-
First image
Article(s):Marriage a-la-mode and the 6 subpages.
Request: I scanned the most massive and detailed reproductions of the engravings of Hogarth's Marriage a-la-mode series I could find, but I had to do them in two images per engraving, so I am requesting that someone "stitch" the images together and upload them (to here or Commons). The licenses would be PD-100/PD-Art, they are all located at [2]. 68.39.174.238 (talk) 23:07, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
Graphist opinion: This looks like a job for Hugin, but I won't do it today. Maybe over the weekend. --Slashme (talk) 06:22, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
- OK, its not urgent, so that's fine. 68.39.174.238 (talk) 17:23, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
I've downloaded the images, but there doesn't seem to be much overlap. That pretty much rules out the use of hugin. :( Also, "H6-1.png" seems to be missing from the list. —Ilmari Karonen (talk) 12:02, 22 November 2007 (UTC)
OK, I had a look at the files, and they're a bit fat for my 56k modem. Sorry, I'll have to pass on this one. --Slashme (talk) 18:44, 22 November 2007 (UTC)
- If I were to scan an "overlap" down the middle of the divide, would that work? 68.39.174.238 (talk) 23:02, 22 November 2007 (UTC)
- Yep! > Rugby471 talk ⚔ 17:38, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
- Does it have to be the entire overlap? My scanner isn't big enough to get the entire overlap, but I got a scan of ~¾ of the divide. Will that work? 68.39.174.238 (talk) 18:12, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
- Never mind that, I've got new scans that have the entire overlap. They're in the above directory, as photoshop files. I'll convert them to PNGs later. 68.39.174.238 (talk) 00:42, 26 November 2007 (UTC)
- I've uploaded the first image to Commons as Image:Hogarth Marriage-a-la-mode reproduction 1 full.png. Could you please check the image description and update it as appropriate? (In particular, the author and date of the engraving would be useful to know.) —Ilmari Karonen (talk) 22:43, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
- Excellent, I've added the author (It was Hogarth), I don't have the date, since this was something he (Hogarth) postponed doing, finishing and publishing several times. 68.39.174.238 00:30, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
Done SVGify a map (Croatian electoral)
-
The image in question
-
An svg version with pretty colours.
Article(s):Croatian parliamentary election, 2007
Request: Create a new SVG map of the electoral divisions. The current numbering scheme and layout aren't necessarily required, especially since the copyright status of this image is evidently questionable. 68.39.174.238 (talk) 21:50, 26 November 2007 (UTC)
Graphist opinion: I'll do this one --Slashme (talk) 13:06, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
- OK, I colour coded the districts, but I don't know where the islands belong. It should be easy for someone who knows Croatia to fix this. Also, maybe some districts have traditional colours? Also, the non-geographical voting regions are not on my new map. --Slashme (talk) 13:56, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
- This is a bit strange: see Counties of Croatia - the counties don't seem to divide along the same lines as the voting districts. --Slashme (talk) 15:16, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
- One other thing, can you include the other two nongeographical districts as the previous image did, or would that be no good? 68.39.174.238 00:36, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
- Perfect; added in place of the copyrighted JPG. 68.39.174.238 (talk) 00:32, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
Glad to help! --Slashme (talk) 23:13, 7 December 2007 (UTC)

Superlink Map

Sagredo svg

Sagredo png
Article(s): Superlink
Request: Hi, this is a replaceable copyrighted map. Would it be possible for someone to create a replacement? It is exactly the same request as the London Midland maps done a while back. They have been done. They had exactly the same copyright problem. A simplified drawing (using straight lines etc.) would be fine. The colours can be changed, the layout can be slightly changed and simplified. The fonts can be changed. Many maps (including those above) like this have been done before with no problem. Dewarw 13:12, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
Graphist Opinion:
- OK, if it's still here in two days, I'll get onto it (lack of time...) --Slashme 18:41, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
- Or maybe not. Sorry: "Real life"™. --Slashme 10:28, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
PRIORITY: If this image is not done soon, it will be deleted as it is orphaned/non-free/replaceable etc. etc. Dewarw 11:54, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
I gave it a start.—Cronholm144 22:20, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
Thanks, look good so far. Dewarw 22:50, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
- I can't just copy it from here. Since it is subject to copyright, if I just make a copy of it as an svg then it will still be subject to that copyright. I'm actually not sure how different it has to be to be free of the copyright, but the point is that this is as far as I'll go for now. I'm sure someone round here has a suggestion as to how to proceed, or perhaps I am mistaken in my notion of copyrights. —Cronholm144 00:15, 16 November 2007 (UTC)
- I'm just too busy to help out here, but I could save someone loads of time. There seems to be no need to include all the gray "existing" lines, or the yellow ones for that matter, and a straight-lined topographical diagram would be miles neater and simpler. There, I've just reduced the job to a 20-minute sketch ;) --mikaultalk 09:06, 16 November 2007 (UTC)
How to make it okay for copyright:
- Just simplify everything: use straight lines, for example.
- Use a slightly different colour scheme.
- Use a different font for any letters.
This will make it okay for use. Other egs where this has worked include the London Midland maps & the pdf, the Beeching II map, and the Central Citylink map (see archives). Do not feel that you have to take too long on it. I really appreciate your work, thanks. -- Dewarw (talk) 17:11, 16 November 2007 (UTC)
- Not sure if this helps much. The station labels do work in Inkscape, but don't show up here. (??) I was able to make a pdf and a png that show them. The station labels should be checked - I'm not familiar with the city. SagredoDiscussione? 07:36, 2 December 2007 (UTC)
I re-did the text, but there are still some strange black blocks left. Not sure where they come from. Ill take another look if I get time. --Slashme 08:08, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
- OK, couldn't figure it out, so I copied the route paths and labels to a new document, and put in the station markers by hand. Problem solved! --Slashme 08:41, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you. Excellent work! Dewarw (talk) 20:46, 9 December 2007 (UTC)

Done Eden Maine logo
Article(s): Eden Maine
Request: This is the logo for a band. It's already in .png format, which I did in my infinite naivete, but all that needs doing is converting the white to transparent. I know it's shocking in quality and resolution, but there's no bigger version out there. This is my first request here, sorry if it's a little banal, to say the least. Seegoon (talk) 09:57, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
Graphist opinion: Is this a free image? If yes, it's easy to fix. If not, we won't work on it. --Slashme (talk) 15:17, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
- Ah, what the heck, I fixed it; it was less than 1 minute's work ;-) --Slashme (talk) 16:40, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
Done Hoysala architecture
Article(s): Hoysala architecture, Today's feature article.
Request: -- Several of the images from today's feature article have ugly red text on them placed by the camera used to photograph them. I am requesting for it to be removed. aliasd·U·T 08:35, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
Graphist opinion:
- I'm occasionally good for a little clone stamping or etc, and have fixed a couple of these, but can't upload them because they are protected. SagredoDiscussione? 23:49, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
This is very good work. Pity about the protection, I suppose something could have been done though :( Its all clear now as far as I can see... aliasd·U·T 21:04, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for the kind words. I'm new to the graphics page, and not quite sure how the process is supposed to work for protected pages/images. I think any admin can upload them or redirect the links from the page. SagredoDiscussione? 00:34, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
- I have gone ahead and put them across to the page and marked this one as done. They should be probably moved over to commons still though. Thanks for all the help Sagredo, your work is great. aliasd·U·T 08:21, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
Perspective correction (advice needed)
Article(s): MIT
Request: Hi, I'd basically like to know whether you think that [3] (1.2MB) is an improvement over [4] (800 KB)? Do you think that perspective-correcting the image was a good idea? -- Ddxc 10:27, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
Graphist opinion: Personally, i think that the previous version was fine. The current tree on the right looks a little stretched > Rugby471 talk ⚔ 16:58, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
- I agree, image quality has degraded in the new version and the rhs looks over-corrected (leaning right) to me, all in all seems a lot to pay for a vertical roadsign and horizontal kerb. That said, a more careful correction from the original file might be worthwhile. --mikaultalk 18:42, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
Done Physics graphics

Request: Basic SVG-ification. I know nothing about physics and can't check for any misleading addition, so please stick to the graphs as is. -- Circeus (talk) 02:58, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
Graphist opinion: Can't the user who originally supplied the diagrams export them in a vector format? --Slashme (talk) 07:23, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

Done Asterias dissection
Article(s): not yet but fit for Asterias and to replace png image in Starfish
Request: I have a problem with the fonts in this file. They show correctly in IExplorer but not Firefox. In the latter numbers are huge. Could a specialist have a look please? The image was made in CorelDraw and then ported to Inkscape. -- Lycaon (talk) 19:39, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
Graphist opinion:I'm on the case. --Slashme (talk) 06:00, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
- OK, please check whether it looks OK now. I changed all the text from "Arial" to "Sans": That should be a safe catch-all font definition. I also removed a couple of paths from the picture: Some of the outlines of the gonads were drawn as separate paths instead of just having the central grey area have an outline. This, and reducing the precision of the position-specifiers in the document itself, reduced the file size by about half, which should make any further editing much easier on memory-limited computers! --Slashme (talk) 07:34, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

Article(s):In finnish Wikipedia: fi:Suomen suuriruhtinaskunta, different coat in en-Wikipedia: Grand Duchy of Finland.
Request: Convert this CoA to SVG.-- 213.186.253.148 07:08, 6 October 2007 (UTC)
- Additional information: The current image on the articel (In English) is incorrect per this. The request should be to create a vector version of the real Grand Duchy coat. This seems to be easily enough done by adding a correct crown to the current coat of arms. 68.39.174.238 03:15, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
Graphist opinion: I've made an SVG version of the one that's currently on there. Please tell me what should be changed about the crown. -- I. Pankonin (t/c) 03:22, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
- Since I'm not the first person who asked the question, I don't know. I think his main request was that the completely erroneous coat of arms that's on the articel now (The one with the Russian eagle) be replaced with an SVG of the correct arms. If they wanted something more specific, they can file another request later with better detail. Thanx. 68.39.174.238 (talk) 00:13, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

Better version from French Wikipedia, copyright status needs to be updated.
Article(s): Tunisia and Project template
Request: resurrecting request from anonymous user but actually using correct template Primarily SVGification, but also the correction of some errors:
- The red circle at the top appears to have been cut at a strange angle for no good reason.
- According to FotW and the Officials, the colors are outdated, all should be in gold.
The simplest fix for this is, the correct image exists at http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Armoiries_Tunisie.gif , all that needs to happen is to crosswiki and SVGify, but I do not know the rules on crosswikiing. Should this then be a Commons image? -- Chris (talk) 06:21, 30 November 2007 (UTC)
Graphist opinion: I have put the version from the French wikipedia on commons, but does someone know what the copyright status would be? In the meantime, I will now create an svg. --Slashme 14:11, 30 November 2007 (UTC)
- OK, svg started, but now I must stop for the weekend. Please continue if you have the energy. --Slashme 15:11, 30 November 2007 (UTC)
- Scales & sales > Rugby471 talk ⚔ 20:12, 30 November 2007 (UTC)
- I've now added the animal (lion, baboon?) so now we just need the ship and the motto and we're good to go. --Slashme 07:34, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
- I'm pretty sure it's a rampant lion, but that is funny. :) Chris 07:54, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
- I hope I haven't offended any Tunisians, but that tail looks very simian, and unlike any lion I've seen. ;-] --Slashme 08:44, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
I've now added the ship; I don't really feel confident about doing the motto. Someone who speaks Arabic can help out here. Who did the motto on the Pakistan coat of arms? --Slashme 13:26, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
And now I've done the motto. Unfortunately the quality is a bit low, but maybe someone who speaks Arabic can fix it. I'll put it on the Tunisia page and put in a request for review on the talk page. --Slashme (talk) 08:16, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
- WRT the lion, could it be taken from a different coat of arms instead of the fr. one (Which does look questionable) ? 68.39.174.238 (talk) 18:35, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
I'd be glad to; Which do you suggest? --Slashme (talk) 23:15, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
- The Vector-images one is best, but it's copyrighted, so I'll suggest maybe modifying the lion on Image:Scottish royal coat of arms.svg, scaling it down, and then adding the sword. I'm not sure if that's possible, but the current one (The one taken from the French version) definitely takes some work to interpret as a lion... 68.39.174.238 (talk) 17:32, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
- It's what it looks like on the official government website. I'd call it done. Chris (talk) 09:04, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
User:Bestofmed gave me the text of the motto, so I converted it to paths and used it in the CoA. I think it's an improvement, but I don't speak Arabic, so it's at best an educated guess. --Slashme (talk) 06:54, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
I guess this one is finished, so I'm marking as done. --Slashme (talk) 16:17, 15 December 2007 (UTC)

Oppinion:
- both are correct, this is script so it's a matter of handwriting. Should be left as it is. The present one is just fine. Chris 19:09, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
- Both are correct, but the current one is an abstract, artistic interpretation of the Om, not mostly used in conventional representation in Hindu symbolism. The "Evidently the correct symbol" is the conventional representation.--Redtigerxyz (talk) 07:38, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

The first one is wrong. I have been a hindu for 18 years, and I have never seen an aum like that. Its rediculious that some people actually consider using it and would support it. It is totally misrepresenting a symbol. If you want proof, click here: [5] Nikkul (talk) 09:05, 7 December 2007 (UTC)

Request: For me, these don't render properly at all thumbnail sizes, and I need to be able to use the thumb|upright syntax on ancient Egypt. I usually never have a problem with rendering, so I suspect it has something weird going on in the .svg file. - OK, shall do. I'm back on the job, will have it done in about an hour. --Slashme (talk) 06:14, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
- Please check the new version. The map which I used was a blank SVG map from commons which was divided along national lines, so I just went along with its opinion on which islands belonged to whom. It doesn't separate Hong Kong from the rest of China, so if there is a scout organisation there, let me know and I can update accordingly. There were also a few spots on the map which didn't seem to correlate with countries, but I'm sure the relevant scouts organisations can figure them out. --Slashme (talk) 06:51, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
- Oops, in progress, but real life called. Please hack in my absence. --Slashme (talk) 16:58, 14 December 2007 (UTC)
- As for the island chains, the blank map I was working on doesn't have all the little islands north of Australia. If you can provide a reasonably good map of them, I could quite easily include them. --Slashme (talk) 07:04, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
- You sir are a great man people will write songs about. Clean ones this time! ;) Minor tweaks:
- Moldova, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan should be purple
- Done
- place red dots on Hong Kong and Macao, they do have Scouts, thanks for the insight!
- Done (just big red dots, as the map I was using doesn't identify Macao or HK properly.)
- Hainan island (south China, near Vietnam) should not be red
- Sorted
- trim all excess border so map is visibly larger
- Not done. Inkscape didn't want to do this, so I'd have to hack it in by hand, and there really isn't that much white space anyway. If it really bothers you, I guess I could, but look carefully along the edges and you'll see some islands very close to the edge.

Request: I am working on an icon in Adobe Illustrator 10. I cannot save it as an SVG file without an error, and saving to any other format (GIF/JPG/PNG) causes adverse effects to the image. (The above image is a JPG, and it was created by taking a screen shot of the artboard in Illustrator — an odd way of accomplishing that!) The work is derived from two GNU icons in SVG (Image:Television.svg and Image:Nuvola apps edu languages.svg), so it should work. I've tried everything and I can't get anywhere. I uploaded the Illustrator file, and in order to bypass the warning, I renamed the file Image:Gameshow.svg with an SVG extension. Help! Regards, Twigboy (talk) 04:11, 14 December 2007 (UTC)
Graphist opinion: I tried to do it with Inkscape, but the current Inkscape only supports the postscript based .ai file format, not the current pdf based one. Your best bet would be for anyone who has illustrator to do it (which we have a few people in the graphics labs). > Rugby471 talk ⚔ 17:28, 14 December 2007 (UTC)

Request: -- Can someone with a copy of Illustrator run the two .ai images here and here through Illustrator's SVG export filter (omitting all the garbage that some versions seem to add - i.e. the eps, ai, and jpeg data), post, and update the image pages to {{vva}}? A 5-second way of clearing two images from the category. Thanks! Stannered (talk) 00:24, 15 December 2007 (UTC)

Graphist opinion: I'll pick this one up. --Slashme (talk) 07:11, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
I have made an attempt. I must say, though, that I doubt that the distribution map is very accurate, as I know for a fact that many people in Zimbabwe speak Swahili. But I'm not an expert. --Slashme (talk) 11:57, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
- The original came from the UCLA, so I'm going to assume it's not a fraud. 68.39.174.238 (talk) 02:56, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
Well, the sources they have listed there are mostly pretty old. They don't explain where the map data came from, either... rather shoddy. ¦ Reisio (talk) 07:35, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
- Well, it's an SVG, so if someone makes a discovery of a better source, they can modify the image or file here to have it modified. 68.39.174.238 (talk) 00:14, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
True enough! I'll mark this one as "done" then. --Slashme (talk) 10:32, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

Surely there's a better source image somewhere... ¦ Reisio (talk) 08:23, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
- That is a fair but incorrect assumption. This is Eastern Europe, after all, and the organization was only split away last year. Time moves differently there. The old emblem is still on their website and paperwork. So no, there's really not. But all the elements are provided above to create one, which is why I have asked. Chris (talk) 08:53, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
Might be a decent SVG outline of the state in Image:BlankMap-World6.svg. ¦ Reisio (talk) 10:57, 16 December 2007 (UTC)

Resaved as Plain SVG, give it a go now. ¦ Reisio (talk) 03:39, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
- Tried again, again no luck, can it be downloaded here? Chris (talk) 03:47, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
Try once more, please — I've removed the raster image links. ¦ Reisio (talk) 03:49, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
- Still nothing. Is there some reason you will not simply upload it here? Chris (talk) 04:00, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, I don't want the responsibility of defending it from the deletionists. You can upload it just as well as I, anyways. ¦ Reisio (talk) 04:05, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
- If that were true, I would have uploaded it myself, as evidenced by my three times above telling you I couldn't see it. Feel free to help others on their requests, you're spinning your wheels on this. Chris (talk) 04:11, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
You don't have to be able to open it to upload it. ¦ Reisio (talk) 04:20, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
Reisio-I'm sorry you don't want to upload it yourself, but that doesn't then count as assistance-no one else has that issue here. We all upload images. I would be happy to "defend it from the deletionists" as you put it, myself. Will a veteran Graphic Lab artist help with uploading this? Chris (talk) 04:55, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
- The assistance part would be assembling the image in the first place. If you are happy to do it yourself, then why don't you go ahead and upload it. ¦ Reisio (talk) 05:00, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
Funny way of assisting. I already said I couldn't upload it. I said I would be happy to defend it. Your reading skills could use some work. Why don't you go bother someone else who wants your peculiar brand of "assistance"? I certainly do not. Chris (talk) 05:06, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
- You said "It won't open", but no matter — as long as you don't hide the image I assembled on your behalf, I'm happy to not converse with you. ¦ Reisio (talk) 05:15, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
(edit conflict) Could you both stop the bickering, please? Reisio's image shows up just fine on my computer, and indeed looks quite nice and remarkably like the original. If he doesn't want to upload it himself and thereby subject his user talk page to messages from any user or bot that decides to contest the image's fair use claim, that's his choice. Certainly there should be no reason to berate him for not going the extra mile after he's already taken the trouble of SVGifying the image in the first place. You asked for an SVG, Chris, and he gave you an SVG — now please try to avoid demanding a shrubbery too. (As it happens, I don't really want to upload that image myself either, since I'm still not quite 100% convinced that all these SVG scouting emblems actually satisfy all the demands of our non-free content policy, and thus do not feel myself capable, in good conscience, of coming up with a fair use rationale arguing that they in fact do so.) —Ilmari Karonen (talk) 05:27, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

I am sorry that we butted heads tonight. I don't usually do that. You put a great deal of work into that image, that's beautiful, and once I saw it I realized we just somehow got wires crossed. Request: Removing the text in the middle. Optionally sharpen. -- Circeus (talk) 04:15, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
Graphist opinion:
- Personally, I'd just use a different image from http://www.erh.noaa.gov/rah/photo/; there are others there that will get the same point across, and whose text can be cropped out without reducing the quality of the image as much as doing so to this one would. ¦ Reisio (talk) 04:48, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
- Even though, I deiced to make a try to remove the text, was really difficult as of the extensive JPEG artifacts around the text. →AzaToth 14:58, 18 December 2007 (UTC)

Request: lighten -- Chris (talk) 14:18, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
Graphist opinion: I thought the beams in the background were distracting, so I removed them, too. SagredoDiscussione? 03:57, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
- Nice! Can we do that? Chris (talk) 06:18, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
- It will never be a featured photo, but it's certainly less "creative" than this [9]. Had the camera, actor and airplane been positioned only slightly differently, the beams would not have showed. So I don't think there's a loss of "encyclopedic" value. (Oops, had about 5 files of this thing saved, didn't realize I'd grabbed one with the background people removed.) - Let me know which objects/people you want in the photo. I think it looks best with both people and beams removed. (And actually I think the answer is, we can, if no one screams.) SagredoDiscussione? 20:23, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
- I like image 2), the beam is unnecessary, but the little guy adds perspective and "cred" to the photo being a homemade one and not a screencapture or something.Chris (talk) 03:12, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
- You got it. I put it up in the place of the original, so it should appear in the articles. Done! SagredoDiscussione? 06:39, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

Request: I found the neat large map to the right from Schengen Agreement, I don't even know if you guys do such things, but it looks like it is updatable through coding as each new country is added. Can this be done to the Eurasia Region map? -- Chris (talk) 06:16, 22 December 2007 (UTC)

Graphist opinion: Is this where you want to go? SagredoDiscussione? 09:35, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
- You've really nailed the color scheme thing! :) Actually, what I need is just a map of the former Soviet Union, with the same ability to change information periodically as the Schengen map. But it really has no relation to the Schengen topic, that's just where I found the cool editable map. Chris (talk) 16:35, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
- Sorry, I live (and often die) by the rule "If all else fails, read the directions." This should work if you don't need titles. SagredoDiscussione? 19:52, 22 December 2007 (UTC)

- The Baltics should not be even included in the map, except as other neighboring countries, they should be grey as part of Europe.
- Please use purple instead of blue, these articles are color-coded to region.
- Is this updatable as membership changes?
- Please include surrounding countries in grey as other maps.
Thanks, Chris (talk) 07:49, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
Edited image at top of section. With the possible exception of the shade of purple/lavender, I think it's done. All the Eurasia is there, even though the western part of Europe and the southern part of Asia don't show. The page is just set too small to cover them, but can be easily expanded. It is editable/updatable. Do you want the dark purple from here? [[10]] (Although the colors there are,. . . well. . . um. . . not my first choices.) SagredoDiscussione? 22:32, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
- This is great, the colors you have are just fine, the only thing I can see is Belarus needs to be green. Thank you so much! Chris (talk) 23:09, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
- Also, I see you've drawn some (but not all) borders for neighboring countries. Please pick all-or-none, it looks a little odd. :) Chris (talk) 23:18, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
- You (we) missed Norway and Japan Oops. : )
That's great, thanks! Will the fact that you've used "Image" to start the image name cause coding problems? Chris (クリス) (talk) 04:13, 24 December 2007 (UTC)
- If the word "Image" causes trouble, (and it hasn't here) it would be possible to download and re-upload under a better name. Or an admin could rename it. Colors aren't hard to change in svg's, I put instruction's on the image's talk page. SagredoDiscussione? 08:50, 24 December 2007 (UTC)

Oh, wait. If you had a high-resolution scan, I would be able to do it with Fourier transforms. As it is, I will just gimp around the problem. :-( --Slashme (talk) 08:11, 24 December 2007 (UTC)

second edit
Article(s): Aries (astrology)
Request: It would be nice to help this image pop a bit more as the monotone makes it blah on the page now. Firstly can we mitigate the "WIDDER" as it's so prominent? Then I suggest ramping up the contrast and finally playing with the color. If the ram could be white or at least lighter or vice versa might help the image pop more but I'm open to all suggestions. You guys have been great in the past! Benjiboi 03:28, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
Graphist opinion: Not sure if this is what you want. Or did you want a white ram on a sepia background? SagredoDiscussione? 11:40, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
- That's already a great start, a sepia background might be a good step and i still want to get rid of the "WIDDER". Thank you! Benjiboi 18:16, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
- Now I think I got the idea. Is this where you want to go? SagredoDiscussione? 19:57, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

- That's amazing - you rule! Benjiboi 21:45, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
- The thumbnail of the second version shows a lighter shade of brown - almost peach (not brown at all!) but when I click through, I get a much darker version which makes it harder to see the individual points/stars. I would prefer if the image was lighter so we could make out the stars more easily. --Seans Potato Business 20:48, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
- 1The image is made to show the Ram of Aries (astrology), not the stars of Aries (constellation). Most of the images for the astrological articles don't have stars at all, such as Libra (astrology). 2Why the server here hasn't updated itself is a good question, but they seem to be working everywhere else. Done British Isles maps
Article(s): Portal:United Kingdom and so on
Request: Any chance these maps can be SVGified (if necessary) and toned down per other wiki maps. I've seen them being used on a number of portals, for example the England Portal, and their ugliness is bugging me! Many thanks, Seaserpent85 16:48, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
Graphist opinion:
- Toned down how? Muting the colors a bit? See any colors used on the maps above that you like? Chris (talk) 18:15, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
- Maybe grey in place of green, and a paler red/pink for the highlighted area... basically anything that's not as bright and gaudy as the current ones! Seaserpent85 19:15, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
I can't convert to svg. but I can color. How's this? The blue should match the blue color used in the Portal:United Kingdom. SagredoDiscussione? 21:33, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for the speedy reply! They look good, however they don't really stand out (ironic, I know, after saying they were too bright earlier)... could you change the grey to a much lighter shade? As they are mainly used at the size shown above, the ones for the Isle of Man and Cornwall are hardly visible. Thanks again, Seaserpent85 01:03, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
- How's the Isle of Man, Cornwall & Wales now? The space between Cornwall and the edge of the image limits the size of a pointer. SagredoDiscussione? 03:21, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
- That's brilliant, thanks for all you hard work! :) Seaserpent85 10:20, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
- While it would be simplest just to replace the originals with these, and have them appear everywhere, it would certainly offend some. The Wales Portal and the Northern Ireland Portals use red and extensively and the images do match there. Seeing the color of the Flag of Wales, while I do understand, it is the time of year when one grows weary of red and green. Blue and gray would look much nicer in Scotland and England for sure. So, SeaSerpent, I suggest that you leave a note on each portal's talk page stating that these are available, and hopefully it will soon look a lot less like Christmas! <Sagredo (talk • contribs) 05:03, 27 December 2007 (UTC)

Request: Some of you might remember me—I used to volunteer here. I don't have access to Photoshop right now and I need your help. I need to make picture number 2 look color-wise like picture number 1. Don't crop or reduce in size, sharpen it up a little and, most importantly, make the colors look like number 1. Whoever makes the best looking image gets a nice barnstar at the end. -- VegitaU (talk) 16:28, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
Graphist opinion: I colour corrected and slighty sharpened (i say slighty because the original was quite good quality) (sorry I uploaded over the original, I forgot and by that time it was too late :-) )
PS: Nice Incentive ;-) > Rugby471 talk ⚔ 17:31, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
- Looks better, but the mauve has not transferred over. Specifically, the garment around the calves and ankles of the sibyl isn't the same color. Sorry, but I need it to be as exact as possible. -- VegitaU (talk) 23:59, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
(If you click on the image you'll see it has been improved, just MediaWiki not refreshing the cache :-) )
- Thanks anyway. I finally found a Photoshop-abled computer and fixed it. Done. -- VegitaU (talk) 11:22, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

- Could the stars in the cantons have their stars normalized? The lines of the upper arms are curved downward strangely. 68.39.174.238 (talk) 14:00, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
- I guess I could, but I don't think that would be quite right. The star is drawn slightly "fat" in the original, which is what makes the arms look "curved". I've made the change to the second flag, so now you have a skinnier star than was originally drawn. Let me know what you think, and I can change the 1st ensign if you prefer this version. You might have to clear the page cache to see the change. --Slashme (talk) 15:14, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
- I'm not sure about the "Fatness" of the star, or if it was ever standardized, so any reasonable representation may be correct. I do like the new 2nd Ensign SVG. 68.39.174.238 (talk) 20:02, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
OK, I made the other one slimmer as well. --Slashme (talk) 01:25, 24 December 2007 (UTC)

Request: I was wondering if someone with better SVG skills than me can help clean up this logo I've made. I've done a horrible job of creating the puzzle piece, and I'm sure there's a lot of uneeded geometry in there. The main issue I have is the big white square I've created that should be transparent, and the overall size of the SVG. Many thanks in advance once again! Seaserpent85 21:41, 23 December 2007 (UTC)

Request: Someone was generous enough to take this picture and upload under it a license we can use to Flickr. However, it looks like the lights in the background are growing out of his head! Can somebody try to airbrush them out as to be less distracting? A simple crop would be too tight.-- HereToHelp 12:53, 26 December 2007 (UTC)
Graphist opinion: I also put in a slightly lighter background. Sagredo⊙☿♀♁♂♃♄ 04:31, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
- Hmmm... no. The original is definitely more amusing. --Seans Potato Business 15:22, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
I tried to make an edit, but the problem is that there are a lot of information in the background. →AzaToth 20:04, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
- A lot of imformation in the background? Turning up the brightness and contrast I don't find anything that I wouldn't hesitate to crop away. Sagredo
Better, but how about a slightly less red background? (You don't have to muck with anything but those four mushroom-lights).--HereToHelp 16:00, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
- One of the above will probably work; it was HereToHelp's request. He can chose, or ask for another variation. I usually try to do what the request is, but sometimes I think more improvement is possible. Sagredo⊙☿♀♁♂♃♄ 23:29, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
- Looks good. Thank you.--HereToHelp 00:31, 31 December 2007 (UTC)
What I meant by the extensive ammount of background information, is that there will be visible traces of edits (as seen on the current edits), ther would be required an high ammount of patchwork to make it look ok. →AzaToth 18:31, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

Graphist opinion: There's probably a Gao in here somwhere. Sagredo⊙☿♀♁♂♃♄ 23:20, 29 December 2007 (UTC)
- My Gao that's blazing quick, and snazzy! Gao job! :) Let me ask you, do the water borders also have white edges? Italy near disappears, it seems. Other than that, we're ready to gao! Chris (クリス) (talk) 02:58, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
- Yes. Each country is a separate object or group of objects. On the original map the borders are just the background showing through the cracks, like cracks in a stone wall. There's a function called "stroke" that puts a border on selected objects. There's also a "select all" function, so the whole world can be selected and "stroked" at once. Should you want to describe this to another graphicist, the stroke is 1 pixel wide. Norway and Greece also seemed to be suffering from sea level rise, so I helped them out. Time to Gao. Sagredo⊙☿♀♁♂♃♄ 04:51, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
- Let me ask, does it allow .75 of a stroke? The borders may now be too defined, compared to the middle image. Not bad, just asking. Chris (クリス) (talk) 05:00, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, it goes to three decimal places. (!?) I set it to .500 pixel which is, if I remember correctly what I used on the first map. Sagredo⊙☿♀♁♂♃♄ 06:30, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
