D.J. Jamison Hey, sorry I missed your question! I was born and raised in Kansas, and I worked in the newspaper industry a long time too. I suppose that all influenced my storyline for Urgent Care. As for this genre, I love romance, but I've lived the boy-meet-girl trope and seen it all my life. I love giving life to stories that normalize queer romance, that show that all forms of love are valid =)
D.J. Jamison Hey, sorry I missed this question! Hopefully you found Boyfriend Freeze again. What happened is that because the book was a promotional release first -- Goodreads often takes those down and qualifies them as "not a book." But it was later released to Amazon, so there should be an entry for it.
D.J. Jamison Andrea, you can see how often I've been checking Goodreads lol. I'm so sorry for the lag time in answering you. For the record, as you maybe know, I've released Wrangling a Groom -- a marriage pact romance -- and two novellas that are set in the Marital Bliss world: Five Fake Dates and Nobody's Groom. Thanks for loving Surprise Groom!
D.J. Jamison Beth, I emailed you a copy of the book, so you should have my email. Also, I emailed you again after that. Not sure if you asked this question before or after I did that. But it's [email protected]
D.J. Jamison Okay, this problem came up early on and has since been corrected. Amazon was supposed to email readers and allow them to update or something or other. I'm not sure if there' s a way for you to update that copy of the book or not. If not, email me at [email protected] and I'll see about getting you the right copy of the book.
Thank you for reading!
D.J. Jamison Keep writing, and don't walk away when you're discouraged. Finish your projects.
I still feel like an aspiring writer. I'm self-published. No one shook my hand and told me I'd make a most excellent author, and that's a scary thing. I took a leap.
I spent years toying around with unfinished manuscripts. You know what got me out of that rut? I decided enough was enough, and I committed to a publish date. Even now that I've published my writing, I still use pre-orders not just as a marketing tool, but to force myself to finish my projects. Maybe it's the former journalist in me, but I need deadlines.
So, try giving yourself a deadline. But don't make it a soft deadline in your head. Commit to sending your work somewhere: to a beta reader, a friend, a book agent or online to Smashwords or Amazon Direct Publishing.
Try writing novellas instead of the great American novel to start out. Finish a shorter piece, and you'll figure out some of the formula for finishing a longer one. You'll also prove to yourself that you can finish it.
Then comes the hardest part. You have to set it free.
Good luck!
D.J. Jamison I am currently working on "Rewriting His Love Life," the third novella in the Ashe Sentinel series. I am hoping to release it before the end of September. I'm also working on the first novel in a spin-off series, The Espinoza Brothers, which also takes place in Ashe, Kansas, and has some ties to The Ashe Sentinel.
Unlike my Ashe Sentinel series, The Espinoza Brothers will feature full-length novels and focus more on one particular family.
